Mitch:

is the bold part fact, or, is it your take?

because every time i have heard any of BA. SK or MB describe it, they call them "Cardinal decisions"

BA and his staff have the final say on the roster and have since day one---it was part of BA's agreement to come to AZ. However, SK discusses the roster with them because he is the one trying to accommodate their wants and needs, so yes, they call it "Cardinal decisions." The only guy who holds the trump card is MB, as he did in the MF situation---whenever there are legal issues involved or issues that compromise the integrity of the organization.

In this business friendship is good when things going in the right way, but if u want to be succesfull and keep your manager position u need to have the strenght to do what's necessary to put your franchise in the best position to succed and that doesnt include friendship, cause at some point if u do beyond that there is the failure

BA was given the ultimate say on his staff and on the roster. Keim would have to breach his agreement with BA to insist that Jones move on.

Do you have a link to support this? I don't doubt it many coaches do. But so did Tomlin and that didn't work out well for BA.

Our new special teams coach is already on the roster but cannot help if he can still kick, his name is Phil Dawson. Gave Larry valuable time management instruction on the onside kick and also instructed the team about game management after he kicked his career long... this tells me he has probably offered a lot more advise, more than maybe Amos, than we even know about :)

I agree with the firing but isn't now a penalty if you run over the center? I saw it called earlier today.

Btw it also happened on the blocked XP
This is a great point and the fact that Amos Jones wasn’t screaming his head off at the refs the first time it happened tells me he probably doesn’t even know that rule. Amos is like the lazy unemployed son that you support because you have to and tell people “he’s weighing his options and researching some different lines of work. It was too distracting in his apartment building. He is a lot more focused since he moved back home.”

Amos Jones ignores the noise

Like most coaches, special teams coordinator Amos Jones does not listen to talk radio or bother to read what’s written about him, whether in the newspaper or online.

“I don’t read articles,” he told ArizonaSports.com on Thursday. “I don’t get many interviews, probably because I’m not a good interviewer or I’m not going to throw anybody underneath the bus. But, the thing is I don’t pay attention to outside stuff.”

And there’s been quite a bit of outside noise, going back to last season concerning the Cardinals’ special teams play.

This season, it’s been much of the same. Special teams will perform well one week (Week 12 against Jacksonville) and then just the opposite the next week (Week 13 against the Rams).

“I did get a ‘fire Amos Jones’ letter from an envelope that was from an American Express company this spring. I kept it, but then I realized I didn’t have an American Express card anyway, so they weren’t mad at me for not paying my bill but it was a ‘fire Amos Jones’ (letter).

“Winning and losing in this business is such a fine line,” Jones said. “The bottom line for us as coaches is, it’s about those guys in the room, about their respect, my peers’ respect in and around the league.”

Good answers (in a general sense) from Amos Jones. But, like his buddy BA, no mention of any culpability. Although, he (probably inadvertently) got a dig in at BA when he said that in part he doesn't get many interviews because "I don't throw any players under the bus."

Now guys. Amos doesn’t block, punt, kick or cover. It’s the players fault. Just ask Arians.

Or he is just saying he would say nothing worth showing on espn if he did an interview.

That’s not a dig at Arians. That’s a “look at me I’m a good guy!” comment.

I'm retired but was as senior manager in my career. One of my managers came up to me once and said that he wanted to hire one of his good friends. I said fine but can you fire him if it doesn't work out. He said "no way, he is a good friend." He didn't hire the guy.
BA doesn't have it in him to fire his long time friend Amos.

I agree you should never hire family or friends.

The fact he's not a good interview is probably exactly why he wouldn't make a good ST coach. When Wolfley talks about ST and says if you've seen one, you've seen them all - I believe him. But when I hear ex-players asked about it, they say it's all about 'want to'. And I believe that. And that's what makes the Rams ST coach special. The energy he brings to that unit.

Remember Kevin Spencer and all the interviews he used to do? That guy was a character. That's the kind of personality you need to be an effective ST coach.

Did BA take it that way in Pittsburgh?
that was worse... Tomlin went in to get BA a raise, but managed to lose his job for him in the process...so BA was sitting there thinking he was about to get more money and suddenly he was unemployed.

Amos is right in saying there's a fine line to winning and losing. Too bad he doesn't realize that his ST's are costing the Cardinals games year after year.

I can think of games the Cards have won despite their ST play but I can't remember a game they have won because of their ST's. I can remember defenses winning games and offenses winning games but not ST's.

BAs first year, they beat the Giants in NY due in large part to a Tedd Ginn punt return TD

but after that..........

I think getting rid of Amo's will also have added effect of forcing a lot of guys to step up. Same results under different coach would not bode well for them as it shifts blame to players & rightfully so.

did anyone hear Jay Feely talk about Phil Dawson? He said that Dawson told him that the blocking scheme they have on field goals and extra points leads to pressure coming in off the edges and it has affected his kicking because he’s worried about someone blocking his kick. he basically said that the blocking scheme is terrible in so many words.
