Sendek should not have received an extension. In my mind the only reason to keep him through this season was because of the Erickson fiasco. This is where ASU could have gotten a much better coach. There are plenty small schools that have excellent coaches that might be available not to mention assistant coaches in colleges and in the pros. ASU needed to hire an uptempo coach to get them back to their run and gun tradition under Ned Wulk. Young players love to play this style and I'm sure ASU would get much better recruits.

Agree with all of this, I would just love to have one person explain to me how he deserves an extension. It just boggles the mind.

He gets a contract extension and loses to NAU. Unbelievable.
Incompetence at its finest. Whoever approved the contract extension for Sendek needs to be examined for their sanity.

It looks very hopeless, not that this is new.

I put this completely seriously..

Can someone remember a time within the past 20 years when we have been this bad?

We are the worst team in the PAC 12 BY A MILE, and in reailty probabaly one of the worst teams of any of the big 6 conferences and yet our coach got an extension...

I still can't get over this..

I guess you haven't seen Utah play. They could very well be the worst team in the nation.

Ok, that may be true, but we are still one of the bottom teams in the nation, Utah may be worse, but put us up against any of the teams in the "BCS" conferences and I bet we are bottom five in the nation...

Just atrocious

In the Big 6 conferences, you are right - bottom 5. Plenty of other teams in lower conferences far worse

Utah, Arizona State, Boston College, Tennessee, and the USC's are the bottom of the BCS barrell

Fail :)
Herbs best skill seems to be the ability to take over programs in a mess and bring stability and get them going in the right direction. He'll probably never be the guy that gets a team going to the Elite 8 every other year or anything, but he's a great fit for any program thats been down in the dumps for a while and just wants to make the Tourney.

It wasn't until his 5th year at NC State that he began his string of Tourney appearances, hopefully something similar will start at ASU now. His first 5 years at ASU were better than at NC State so hopefully the next few will have a slightly higher ceiling as well.

E: I wonder if things don't work out at ASU if Northwestern wouldn't be the perfect fit for Herb. Academic school, low pressure (they've never been to the Tourney), still in a big conference, fertile recruiting ground, etc. If Sendek ever got them to the tourney even once they'd build monuments to him.

So no discussion of the Pateev cheap shot? I find it very interesting that he only got one game while Yancy Gates got six.
