I don’t mind 5 wide in the red zone, I mind that it is a formation that we rarely use. Maybe that was the point and it was supposed to catch MN by surprise. It sure didn’t work. That much I know.
Man I’m sorry but doing it right there was dumb as hell. Especially considering we were moving the ball at will with a RB lined up in the backfield. I just know Conner getting injured scared Petzing that much with that playcall.

I don’t disagree.

The QB is the one who determines who the ball gets thrown to. Just saying.
True to a point but generally speaking every play has a designed #1 target & rarely is McBride the go to guy in the end zone. Yeah I know Kyler missed him last week but Petzing should have him the #1 option more & more. It makes zero since.

Said this all year. The offense should be built around McBride not James Conner.

That upsets some but Trey is our best skill position player.

I've given Petzing his share of blame this season, but today? Meh, that wasn't the worst called game. One 3rd down I didn't like the handoff. Designed runs for KM and even rolled him out. Threw a WR screen in there, which posters have been asking for. Bottom line is that the players need to execute better.
Definately the execution today

Maybe not his worst called game, but his worst called play since his tenure where he called 5-Wide in 1st & goal.
Yeah, that one also isn't a good call. I just feel that there's a lot of "it's all on Petzing" blame going around to excuse Kyler. Not from you, but it is clearly happening.

We will win 8 to 10 games this season and he will continue to learn on the job.

We needed a vet OC for a great QB and we got a novice
:biglaugh:

It's everybody but Kyler. Always everybody but Kyler. Forget Petzing--if Kyler has even a decent 4th quarter, we win. We gave him the OL, the WR, he's got a top TE and a running game. Even the defense has been lights out this season, all things considered. He has plenty of support. What will you say if we fire Petzing and we get more of the same? It's the water boy's fault?

You should just stick to K1 short jokes and video game takes. You’re out of your depth when it comes to QBs.

Here is where I always get hung up. If Kyler is really good, and has the full weight of the offense, why not audible out of all of these awful plays? I personally don't like Petzing's offense so I don't really get up to defend him, but some of you act like Kyler has no say in this offense and no decision making.

The set and personnel are still the same.

Why would anyone think this is an actual solution?

Please be serious.

Because red zone sets are the most important and most worked aspect of the offense. Kyler should know EXACTLY what he wants to do in those situations based on what he is seeing. The personnel is the personnel. If Kyler is even an average NFL QB, he should be obsessed with how to beat defenses in the red zone if they take away Conner. This is the entire mental part of the game. Very similar to 2 minute.

Here's what I want to do.

Here is how they might counter that.

If they do, here is how I pivot.

EDIT: here is the wildest thing for you. Most OCs call the game their QB wants based on the game plan for the week. It is honestly more likely than not that Petzing is calling the exact plays Kyler wants him to call.

To be honest, there is only so much a defense can do. Only so many types of zone coverage. Only so many types of man. To think after 6 years that Kyler hasn't seen every coverage defenses have to offer is kinda under-selling him.

K1 had to go to the WR to ask them what they want to run. Petzing is a clown and K1 shouldn't have to do all this for competent coaches.

If you think Petzing's offense fits K1's strengths I have ocean front property to sell you in San Tan.
