I agree with you in general, but I'd like to remind you in the specific that our roster was below average but fine in 2023. Monti fashioned the 2023 Cardinals into one of the worst rosters in the NFL.

And I agree that Monti's very cautious and measured approach to free agent acquisitions, along with not retaining Zach Allen and Byron Murphy contributed to overall roster deficiency.

Zack Allen received a 'great' offer from Denver and an opportunity to hook up with the DC, who had given him his chance.

And Monti may also have concluded that an Allen deal and rebuilding contender status would not mesh.

Murphy's back was acting up. Monti made an offer, and the Vikes made a better one.

And releasing DeAndre Hopkins.

Not having a true alternative to Colt McCoy heading into training camp was also a bad move.

There's plenty of reason for offensive optimism in 2025. We've got ascending players at key positions in PJJ, MHJ, Isaish Adams, Trey Benson, and Tip Reiman. Add in free agent and draft choice acquisitions and there's a reasonable expectation for improvement in 2025.

We should have a lot of optimism heading into 2025. Yet, Im not convinced things will be different.
Should we? Especially if we fail to win on Sunday and don't even double our 2023 record?

People talked about the Detroit Lions model (seems very long ago when they were saying that tho), but that team rode a massive win streak into the offseason and had an outside shot at the playoffs in week 18 (I think). We've lost five of our last six including a road loss to a Carolina Panthers team who hasn't otherwise won a game since November 10 and lost the preceding and following games by more than 2 TDs.

Joeshmo (what ever happened to that guy) used to say that it's a bigger step to move from 8 wins to 10 wins than it is from four to eight (or something like that). On paper right now, our 2025 opponents are extremely soft. I don't know if we'll win the division next year, but I expect us to compete for it longer than we did this year, for sure.

Just so you know, I'm gotta be 77 before the season starts. Plz make sure my age is taken in to account. Who knows how many more coaches I'll make it through. I've been on this board over 20 years. Plz make it correct this time!

Thank you,
MrYB

Harry - great point and analysis of a very complicated moving object. PFF does have our line rated fairly high which is encouraging. And sometimes Murray does pass they eye test in the pocket. But other times as been mentioned many times, he looks out of control and throws off his back foot. Hopefully, next year the line will continue to improve. Giving Murray the opportunity to continue growing in the pocket. He has shown some improvement this year. Do you see more chances for improvement for the offense or defense next year? Any thoughts on what QB could push Murray?
There’s a rumor Seattle would trade Smith as he’s a UFA after 2026 and they’re hesitant to do a long term deal. Of course the Cards might not be thinking long term deal either. Unlikely to be a match. More likely would be someone like Justin Fields. His style of play fits the current offense. He’s ideal if Murray’s hurt. He’s not good enough to bump Murray but might press him. Speedy WR & Oline improvement for offense. Defense needs anchor DT & pass rushers

Dude Michael Carter isn’t a power back. Earlier in the game we saw him get stoned in a similar situation with 3 backup olinemen in the game. Carter is 5’8 and 200lbs. That wasn’t JC, or even benson, back there.

I’ve been critical of petzig this season. Way too conservative. But he’s at the point where some of y’all will criticize anything he calls even if it’s the opposite of what you were previously criticizing him for earlier in a game or a prior game.
Only if you tan him outside
