I would be shocked if Petzing doesn't return as OC. While Cards fans are disappointed in the poor play after the bye, I think the Cards coaches and front office will look at 2024 as year 2 of the rebuild, which started in 2023 with one of the worst rosters in the NFL. Where fans see the late season collapse and not making the playoffs as failure, I think Gannon and Ossenfort will take the long view and see the progress that the team made in 2024.

My guess is they will run it back in 2025 with the coaching staff in tact, and hope for significant improvement in the offense with better O-line play, a speed WR, and an improved Kyler/MHJ connection.
I hate this but you’re probably right… I for one am not excited to watch the most boring offensive scheme in the NFL for a 2nd year. You aren’t going to win in this passing league. The rules are set against it.

It just makes me laugh.. there are no consistent lock down defenses nowadays and we are certainly no where close. The best defense I’ve seen since the 2002 Ravens was the Browns last year… and even they were getting torched come playoff time.

You could be the best running team in the league and you still are going to get torched at times bc the league is geared to passing. I think we have seen a major evolution to Baltimores passing game because of this (after failing in the playoffs for countless years). It just doesn’t work. It’s why the Browns have had great running years and yet still have sucked!

Why on earth can anyone in 2024 support what PetzTard is doing is beyond me.

Why do we always have to be the experimental offense under this Kyler era? I’ll take the run of the mill standard 2024 NFL offense at this point please.

It's not SUPPORT per se, but simply concluding that he's likely to be back.

Baltimore, at a 47% passing rate, ranks #31. Philly is #32.

AZ, at 55%, ranks #21.

Thanks but my post wasn’t referencing to passing rates, but rather the type of passing scheme we have set up.

Passing rate.. can be largely dictated by the scoreboard. We are consistently behind.

I think it is pretty clear that Kyler can't operate a standard NFL offense. There are just parts of the field he can't access as a traditional dropback passer, and taking his prodigious running ability out of the picture minimizes his impact.

Last year Kyler and Dobbs both averaged 5.5 rushing attempts per game. This year Kyler is averaging 4.7 APG.

RIGHT ON! Why is it so hard for people to recognize and accept this?

Neither does Murray.
Agreed.. and I for one don’t think this offense plays to at least what we know he’s good at. It’s not an offense catered to what Jalen Hurts is good at (certainly not being a pocket passer), or what Lamar Jackson is good at. Those 2 offenses and teams looked at their most expensive player and said, “hey let’s surround talent and a scheme at what they are good at. Let’s not change them”. Although I will again say I have never been more impressed by Lamar as a passer until this season. He’s continued to develop while all of the above stays true. Let’s see if it translates to when it matters this year.

You don’t know that.. he’s never played in a standard NFL offense. Not saying that it would be a different result, just would like to see it before making that assumption. Plus have no idea why you wouldn’t want to play to such a unique players strengths. We’ve done the opposite of Baltimore and the Eagles. He’s definitely a better thrower of the football than Hurts, we just never schemed around his athletic prowess. Roll-outs, 8-12 runs a game, motion, drag routes, crossing routes have literally never been consistent variable on nfl Sunday… mixed in w the proper amount of play action. Causes me to be curious.

Going into this season we expected a totally healed Murray. A qb that had a year and a half to absorb this offense. We had a very good running game and added MHJ and Zay Jones. Both “ bigger “ receivers and moving off the Smurf group.
We all wanted Kyler under center more and he claimed that’s what he wanted all along. I figured with this running game our play action was going to be killer.
It’s hard for me to believe a coaching staff couldn’t figure out what “ Kyler does best”.
It’s year 7 of Kyler’s career. Petzing isn’t going anywhere. Kyler isn’t going anywhere. No matter who you or I believe is the biggest fault, the success of 2025 is square on their collective shoulders.

I don’t believe that… there’s a lot of teams coaching that is a system rather than playing to their players talents instead. I truly believe Baltimore would have been one of the only teams to unlock Lamar’s potential through openly taking this stance on their scheme that has been noted through several interviews.

I think we have had not 1 but 2 first time OC’s trying to make their mark in the league through “their way”. One got fired and has sense adjusted his scheme after a year layoff from the nfl. The other is following the same course.

I don't think you understand what a standard NFL offense is. It's not what the Eagles and Ravens run.

There are a few flavors, but the most popular/trendy NFL offense is what us run by the Shanahan tree: San Fran, Miami, LARM, Green Bay, Cincy, Minnesota. Other more dropback-focused offenses are the ones in Detroit, Seattle, Cleveland, Dallas, and Denver.

Both came into their roles being extremely effective and then become more and more limited as their exposure increased to...

Quarterback Kyler Murray.

We're clearly running a more closed offense right now than we did with Josh Dobbs. Why do you think that is?

Wait - him being an assistant on one of the most putrid offensive teams in the league (Cleveland) was effective?

And Kliffy - my gawd do I need to bring back the route trees of WRs on a game by basis again?

I think you are getting confused.. I said I would TAKE a standard nfl offensive scheme over this BS! However, I think kyler needs an OC based on his unique AND limited skill set and needs a team that will scheme around him a la Lamar and Hurts.

I think it’s comical that in the same post you’re arguing you want to see kyker in a traditional offense and want one customized to his talents with rollouts and 8-12 runs. Literally opposites.

I think it’s comical how thick you are to come out of the post reading that.. it’s very apparent my point is I would rather see a traditional scheme rather than this BS. It also is very apparent that I posted I think a scheme tailored around Kyler’s athletic prowess and QB strengths would be best.

Both statements are different and are not contradicting each other.. they are separate points. Can you handle that? Or you just want to pick an argument to continue w your consistent negativity crew?

For years on here, it was always the Whizzanator's scheme and not the players strengths that most people blamed for our offense. I think it's the same thing on here with Petzing not adapting to K1's strength's. I think Petzing needs to adapt some of his play calling to enhance Kyler's strengths, which he doesn't seem to be doing.

This is the same thing that was said about him under center.

These coordinators run whatever offense they want. It is obvious this offense isn't built based off the talent we have. WR not emphasized even though we drafted one 4th overall and even Wilson not being used effectively.
