Before I jump on the "Fire Chip" bandwaggon I need the answer to this question.

Is their record due to lack of talent or motivation?

sent from a fone

It's a combo of both, however, this team has grossly underperformed as their is more than enough talent to be much more competitive...

And now we lead 7-1. The sky is not falling. :)

Have faith, friends. Especially with Peralta coming back. To take some of the pressure off Goldy on the offense.

This team needs some edge, they need Gracie.
They have Gracie . . . as backup hitting instructor and cheerleader. Just the right place for him.

With his behavior in the TV booth and in public, Mark Grace demonstrated a mentality that is extremely immature and hardly suited to be the top man on the field, responsible for up to 50 people.

There is a big difference between edge and management skills.

Before canning the manager, I would look at the pitching coach and overall pitching philosophy to see if that is the problem.

As much as people disliked the Shelby Miller trade, nobody actually thought he would become the worst pitcher in major league baseball. Everyone thought that Greinke would not repeat his historic 2015 season. Nobody would have predicted that his ERA would be a two runs higher than his 2015 season. Corbin and Ray have both regressed as well.

The only thing the manager can really control is setting the lineup, when to bring in relievers, who to pinch hit, make double switches and defensive adjustments. The problems of this team are more than the above.

Gil Heredia appears to have worked a miracle with Archie Bradley in Reno. If he fixes Marshall and Chafin they ought to very seriously consider bringing him here to replace or assist Mike Butcher. I was not impressed or thrilled with the Butcher hire, but there is no way all of these pitchers are just this bad. This is a coaching issue.

Last summer I worked out with Hops manager and he said when Grace worked with the team, he was an amazing teacher. The moment you put a bat in his hand, he is all business. He said Grace needs the bat in his hand to stay focused on life and coaching may save his life. Being in the booth removed him from that and he took a wrong turn, but may one day make an excellent manager. They are taking it slow with him though.

Why is it hard to believe this team is this bad?

Firing Hale at this point is just asking for Matt Williams to be named manager. That's the only move the org has at this moment.

Kirk (Mr. Personality) Gibson Part 2?

Matt Williams was fired by Washington because he didn't know how to reach out to the players.

When the time comes to hire a new Manager, let's hire someone whose positives are stronger than his negatives.

You guys know my feeling. Chip Hale reached a major accomplishment managing the D-backs top farm team.

It makes no sense to judge him on this injured roster.

No Matt. Keep Hale. But stop with the excuses, every team has setbacks, including injuries. Many blasted Gibson for his erratic lineups, but look what Towers was doing to his team. Hale is no better in the lineup department. But we need to give Hale time to find his groove.

This is not a 10 game sub 500 roster. Just the pinch hitting in the last game was nuts. Most of the team is playing below where they should be. To many to not look at who is getting them ready to play. They're not buying what he's selling.

Who is not playing up to where they should be?

Even with Pollock and an average year from Miller I had this team pegged as a .500 team.

The better question is who is? This roster is better than last year and at this pace we will be nowhere close. We have suck teams beating us like the Rays all the time. This team is playing bad in every way. This is not a world series line up but it's not the worst team in baseball. Pollock is not M.J. on a 8 man rotating team. This is baseball he would make little difference with the way the team is playing as a whole. People make it sound like he's a 20+ game ace. You may have gave this team a 500 grade most gave it better. Neither is even close right now and I don't see it changing. Chippy needed to pick a lineup and let them play. A team can't win if they don't know what that team is. He has no clue in a game let alone game in and game out. The man is lost and the team knows it. You can tell by the level of play and zero emotion.

Ok rant over I feel better.

Only those fans sucked in by the local hype machine gave this team a much better chance than .500 ball.

The majority of our lineup is playing average to their careers at this point is not some exceeding overall.

Starting pitching has been worse mainly because of Miller, but the BP has not been bad. There are many team who are just way more talented than us. The local hype machine just didn't mention that.

Well I don't agree at all. This team should be better than last year.

There were too many peak seasons offensively last year. It gave a false impression and the regression is hitting.

Think Segura would be wearing the Bubble Gum helmet in the 7th inning if Chip were there?

Goldy is having an off year, his OBP notwithstanding...
Pollack's absence has been felt bigtime...
Other than that, the rest of this offense is what it is...
Corbin, De la Rosa and Miller have been awful..more so than we had a right to expect.

But for the most part, it's hard to argue with your point. Last season was simply not what should've been expected for the majority of players on this team..

So the team over achieved last year and this is this for this team? I say not this bad no way. They had fun after Chippy left. He looks lost when things go wrong. Chippy over achieved last year.

As I said, Goldy is better than what we've seen this year and Pollack out has hurt. But Tomas? BLOWS. Peralta? Slightly better than what we've seen this year... slightly. Owings? Yep, this is it... Segura? Regressing back to his career numbers... Lamb? Yep, this is it... Bourne? Please... Castillo? Yep, this is it... Hermann? I like what I see in him, but he's no Johnny Bench at the plate...
Gosselin? Solid bench player. Ahmed? Solid bench player - in AAA.

Add in the pathetic performances of Corbin, Ray and De la Rosa and we have what we have...

I don't agree. Even if I did it doesn't add up to getting beat consistently by teams with worse numbers and players.
