It was a fox show? For some reason I thought it was on the Sci fi channel.

No it was a Fox show. How ironic is that? When Fox was just a nobody network, they made a name for themselves by having shows like Firefly. As soon as they got big something changed. I saw this break down of this site that showed that FOX is actually one of the worst networks to have your show on in terms of the ODDS of it getting axed.

The Sci Fi channel wanted to pick up the show but financially they couldn't afford it with BSG and other acquisitions at that time. Timing is everything I guess.

I don't mean to nitpick, but isn't the show only around four years old? Fox has been an established network for a while.

Fox was only a movie studio and not into televsion production. So yes the Studio was around but not the televsion unit. Fox TV did not launch until 1986. When Fox TV started they had a huge uphill battle and took chances with several types of shows (including sci fi) to get started. The other networks said Fox would never make it. So Fox Television made a name for itself with shows like Married With Children and 21 Jump Street.

Half the shows that Fox aired back then to compete with the big boys wouldn't stand a chance on the network now because they are more mainstream. Fox has turned it's back on more genre type programming in favor of main stream programming. So what I was trying to say is that Fox doesn't give those types of shows leashes anymore.

I misread your original post. I thought you were saying Fox was a nobody network when Firefly was on.

My bad.

It wasn't just that, it was also that Fox held the rights and wouldn't give them up

From what I understand they were willing to sell to Sci-fi but the price was too steep and the Sci-fi channel just spent a load of money on BSG and the Stargate franchises.

It is too late. I think Whedon has said he's moved on.

Mmmm. That would be a tough call since Whedon is working on WW. He would probably produce while letting someone like Tim Minear run the day to day and right. I am sure if he was approached he would consider.

The bigger question is if you could get the cast back.

Whedon has his fingers in a lot of pies right now. He's come out to say that even if he was approached about another Firefly project--tv or film--he wouldn't/couldn't do it.

Actually on a video interview I saw on the net, he was less definitive. He said there was nothing on the horizon but you never know. To me that means he would be open. When asked about Buffy and Angle stuff he was much more definitive about the window being closed.

I hope he gets the opportunity to make some big hits though. In Hollywood they tend to let you do what you want once you get enough clout.

That'd be great...but it's not the vine I got. I'll see if I can find the article. It was in a Wizard magazine (a comic book geek pub).

I know I have read so many interviews with the actors and Joss that I think it comes down to this. If a studio throws money and them and says lets do this... it would happen. If there is not much interest, I don't think Joss is running around trying to find takers.

So chances are slim for any ex-whedon show. However, something tells me that if Joss earns some clout over the next few years and kind of writes his own ticket.....I wouldn't put it past him to revive a franchise or 2.

How much clout does he need? He's one of the best script doctors out there...

/I love Joss....

What I mean by clout is that he can't go to a studio and say I want to do this ...give me money. I think if Joss directs a few more films and produces a mega hit or 2....studio execs would be lining up for his next project.

I know, I just think he SHOULD be able to do that already...it just isn't how it works...

OK, I am officially a Firefly fanboy. This show is fantastic.

Last night, I watched Safe. The development of River's character is very well done.

I almost finished Our Mrs Reynolds this morning. What an episode!

I am starting to get giddy about the movie as well.

Our Mrs Reynolds is a great episode. GREAT ending. Perfectly acted, IMO.

EDIT: That's the one with the hot redhead/strawberry blonde, right?

What # episode was the Safe? It took about 10 episodes for me to get "giddy" about the show, then to anticipate the movie, and then to wonder why Joss won't make a sequel.

I saw a "Got Firefly" sticker on the back window of a car yesterday. Very cool.
