FITZGERALD EXTENDS HIS DEAL
According to an announcement posted on what appears to be his personal web site, Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald has agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract with the team.

Fitzgerald's site says that he'll get $30 million guaranteed, and $33 million over the next three years.

He had been scheduled to earn more than $14 million in salary in 2008 and more than $17 million in salary in 2009 based on eight-figure escalators for which he qualified based on his performance during the first four years of his career.

The deal also supposedly contains a clause that permits Fitzgerald to block any trade without his consent (which protects him from being traded to one of the really bad franchises . . . like the one he currently plays for).

That site doesn't open for me.

From Larry's Site:

The Arizona Cardinals have reached a contract agreement with All- Pro wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr., Pending NFL approval. The 24 year old Fitzgerald, who helped the Cardinals to a 8-8 record in 2007 their best in ten years will remain with the Cardinals after signing a four-year contract extent ion.

The two-time Pro Bowl star said, "I'm very happy with this my intent was to stay with the Cardinals, I'm grateful that we were able to get this done." Fitzgerald led the NFC in 2007 with 100 receptions and 10 touchdowns. Fitzgerald will get $33 million over the next three years $30-million is guaranteed.

In 2008 he will get $17 million $15 is guaranteed if the Cardinals released him after 2008 season he would become a unrestricted free agent, he also has a no trade clause with-out his consent. Cardinals Vice President of Football Operations Rod Graves and Larry's agent

Eugene Parker negotiated the deal. In Larry's four years in the NFL
he has 330 receptions for 4,554 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Yes, the grammar sucks halfway through the post.

I thought he should have received 33M guaranteed for a 5 year deal.

Can't believe I will say this, but kudos to Graves to getting this deal done, eventhough it is not the terms that you wanted. You painted yourself in a corner, and did what you need to do to get out of it.

This is only a good deal if it gives the Cards cap relief the next three seasons. It's hard to see how that works out.

No one puts Gravy in the corner.

Good deal! Now lets lock up Dansby & Q for a long long time.

This looks like his cap hit would be 2 mil salary + a pro-rated bonus of 3.75. That would clear more than 8 million in cap space.

Not sure what you mean by this, but not resigning Fitz last year, painted Graves in a corner.

I am freaking stoked right now!

That would be good and give us some money to sign Dansby to a long term contract.

Dansby is already on the cap for more than 8 million. A long term deal for him SHOULD clear cap space, not eat up more. Unless we use a roster bonus.

I wouldn't doubt it if we did...

I think Dansby's negotiations are going to make Fitz's seem like a cakewalk. Hope I'm wrong.

But, screw that today! This is really cool! I bet we see a handful of moves over the next week.
