From Darren Urban's blog:

Awaiting (good) news on Fitz

I know people are going to be asking soon, and I too have seen the profootballtalk.com report about Larry Fitzgerald reaching a deal. I know that talks have been going well and things were moving closer to a deal, but I have no official word yet. I didn't want to leave everyone hanging either. I suppose that the player's own website -- which is run by his father -- is probably a pretty accurate source. But there have been so many "almosts" in these talks (I was told this was close before, when it turned out to be not so much) that caution is probably the best way to take.

Still, it looks like this story is near completion -- finally.

Check back for further updates as the day goes on.

******

Personally, I am going to wait until the official site announces this before I get too excited.

You know, some people fake this kind of stuff (but this isn't my work :D).

His dad is a media person. He probably wanted to be the one to break the story, and Parker gave him the heads up.

Cards, Fitzgerald close to deal

The Cardinals and receiver Larry Fitzgerald are close to agreeing on a contract extension, according to an NFL source.

The news was first reported on Fitzgerald's website, larry-fitzgerald.com, and confirmed through a league source.

Terms of the contract were not available, nor is the deal finalized, but barring an unforeseen snag an agreement should be announced later today.

The Cardinals have pursued the restructuring of Fitzgerald's contract for several months. He was due to make $14.6 million in salary this season, and his cap figure of $16.5 million gave the team little room under the NFL salary cap.

Not sure what you mean by this, but not resigning Fitz last year, painted Graves in a corner.

I am freaking stoked right now!

Its a joke. A bad one based on some Swazye movie like Dirty Dancing or something.

I agree with you that he put himself and the team in the situation. Glad to see something is done and we can move on.

Someone please please tell me why everyone is so happy about this?? Basically, Graves bent entirely over and gave Fitz exactly what he wanted. If that was the gameplan this could have been done weeks ago.

For the life of me I just dont get this. There goes the power-run theme.

I hope all of you are this happy in a year or two when Q is gone.

Jurecki just reported that both Fitz and the Cards say they have agreed to terms, but nothing is signed yet.

Just in time to sign some big name free agents. :D

Thank you Larry for taking your time in agreeing to a new contract.

You see, Larry knew that if he signed a deal right away the Cardinals would waste a lot of money on the first wave of FA. He also knew that none of those players were worth that kind of bank. So he held off on signing until now to insure the Cards would not spend the cap space saved foolishly. Now the Cards can concentrate on those middle to upper echelon FAs that will improve their team from the belly up. They will also come cheaper and will not strap the franchise for the next 4 years.

After his playing days are over he is a shoe in to become the best GM in the NFL.

Look at you trying so hard to pretend like you don't know 100% that the line is from Dirty Dancing.

It's ok we all know nobody puts Baby in the corner.

So what kind of receiver do you want in a power run theme? Obviously not one as good as Fitz?

I don't think it necessarily follows at all that we'll lose Boldin or won't be able to run the ball. The good news is that we didn't screw it up with one of our best players and run him out of town. We've had a bit of a problem with that in the past.

I have nothing to do with Fitz's site.. If I did, there would be a shave Fitz's head poll on there everyday...

I think 10 mill per year is a little steep.

Usually in these cases you extend the guy and get several more years on the contract. In our case we only got two years and an 8 digit cap figure for the life of the contract.

I would have signed him to 5 minimum.
