Fitz is freakin Awesome.

But now its time to put my cap guru hat on and be a stick in the mud.

PFT already wrote what I was thinking about so I will just quote them, which is very much so true.

"But while Fitzgerald is reportedly willing, there might not be many options. As the NFL embarks on the last capped year of the current labor agreement, the old tricks like guaranteeing a huge chunk of current-year salary and spreading the cap hit over time won’t apply. Thus, short of a reduction in dollars due and payable to Fitzgerald in 2009, with no guarantee that he’ll make up the difference in 2010 or beyond, Fitzgerald can’t really help to solve the problem."

Im sure Fitz knew this when he stated it. ;)

Does anyone really believe otherwise?

Hey, some of us tried to fight the good fight. I kept on expecting for you to chime in, and then I realized your fingers were probably paralyzed with rage.
Paralyzed with rage indeed.

When you watch him on or off the field he is one class act. Fitz knows that his bread is buttered even better, with Q pulling people off of him. He also knows that the team in general is much better, with him than without him. These two guys are complete opposites except when they are playing.

I hope we can keep him and Fitz so they can retire as Cards!

you have to wonder what kind of a guy hamstrings his team's future while not considering the future of his friends who may be cut because of his refusal to accept a deal that merely makes him the highest paid wideout in tv history of football. The guy obviously does not care about the fans or the franchise. But his disrespect for his teammates (who gets cut to absorb his scheduled salary?) shocks me. This mans character has been exposed. Trade him for anyone who can work with him to get us a first round pick. Then let us actually have some hope for free agency. Teams aren't built around receivers. And we already have a great and loyal one in Q. Let's work something out and MVD this first class primadonna so we can get on to free agency

:D I'm sorry, I just had to bring this up.. I'll bump the thread later.

What a difference a year makes eh?

I still think Boldin will get a new deal this offseason. Even if he doesn't, I bet he's back here next season.

I have come to the conclusion a long time ago that AZ media gives out a lot of hints about what will happen for the Cards concerning decisions they will make in the future. These guys know 50% more then what they actually write about. Especially the Cards main web site. They are always putting little things out there to the fans before a decision is made to lessen the blow for what they think will be unpopular decisions. Example, a few days before the 2007 draft all we heard from the main site was that Grimm likes Levi Brown more then Joe Thomas. There are many other examples but you get the point.

Well I think we are starting to get the same sort of thing from the main site again. Trying to not get anyones hopes up or to put a little bug in peoples ears so they arent as surprised or pissed off if it happens. From Urbans lastest blog...

"But the Boldin question isn’t just about the money. It’s the money the Cards are willing to spend at the position when other parts of the team (QB Kurt Warner, LB Karlos Dansby, S Adrian Wilson, for example) also need tending. It’s the money Boldin is willing to play for, and whether he is still willing to stick around."

"But I just heard Steelers tackle Max Starks talk about how this is a business (he will be a free agent) and that’s how it usually plays out with both team and player."

.... and the news that Fitz is willing to, in some way, help accomodate this reality dove tails with this bit of insight...

I think it points out this is a pretty tight group. I also think this puts a little pressure on the Cards to keep the "core" of the team together,

Its all about money don't be surprised when this team is not the same next year, until otherwise proven the Cards front office has to step up and prove they want to be a winner and not be cheap!

I think it's a great gesture on Fitzgerald's part, but I'm not sure keeping Boldin is in the best interest of the team unless Boldin becomes the third-down back, kick returner -- a bunch of other things to justify his expense.

So many here are wishing the Cardinals would run the FO like the Steelers. Well, the Steelers have been very savvy in keeping some vets and letting others go. I doubt the Steelers would pay to keep two premium receivers on their roster. They might not even re-sign Hines Ward.

Part of being stable is being financially responsible. It's not just about how much money the ownership takes in. It's winning against the salary cap, and remaining flexible so you can always address a critical need in free agency when there's no help on the depth chart or the draft.

As good as Boldin is, he's still probably a luxury, and it remains unlikely Fitzgerald could give up enough money to make it work.

According to Mike Sando's blog, Rod Graves still considers Q "part of the core" and it sounds like he's going to reach out to him after the season. Ultimately it will likely depend on just how much coin it will take to make Anquan happy, and whether playing in one of the best passing offenses in the NFL will outweigh getting a few sheckels more some place else.

In other words is he closer to Calvin Pace or Adrian Wilson? Hey Calvin, having a nice time on the golf course?

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfcwest/0-7-298/Cardinals-enjoy-long-awaited-day-in-the-sun.html

Graves spoke about how he considered Anquan Boldin a "core" player despite the receiver's contractual dissatisfaction, noting that he hoped to improve relations with Boldin through a meeting after the season.

you doubt it? I know they wouldn't as they let Plaxico walk even after he helped them to a 15-1 season.

And for the record, once again Fitz proves to be the greatest thing ever to happen to this franchise.

I was listening on the radio when those 2 talkings head were on this topic.

It may seem noble, but it's not like Fitz is gonna take a pay cut (they said he is a "frugal" guy.) They would just try to move money around but because of 2010 no salary cap, may not be possible anyway.

No way Boldin comes back. He has been approached my mgmt recently and he hasn't backed off his trade request. They said Boldin dispises upper mgmt (looks like especially Rod Graves since they were speculating if a different GM came in, perhaps Boldin would be inclined to stay.)

Lies Being Told at Media Day (again, per the radio guys).

1. Ben and Whis are "straight" and good friends
2. Russ Grim is not angry that he was passed over for the Steelers job.
3. Boldin saying nice things about Cards mgmt.
4. Mike Tomlin was not hired because of the Rooney Rule.
