Goldschmidt, D-backs summon the force on Paul Solo bobblehead night
Share

The Arizona Diamondbacks hosted Star Wars night at Chase Field, giving fans Paul Solo bobbleheads ahead of their matchup with the Florida Marlins.

Naturally, the force was strong with first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, who blasted a solo homer to left field in his first at-bat to give the D-backs a 1-0 lead.

MLB.com's Steve Gilbert noted that this was Goldschmidt's first career homer on his own bobblehead night, and he's the first D-back to do so since Chris Young back in 2011. What's more, Goldschmidt has had a tough time in his previous four bobblehead games, hitting just 2-for-12 in those contests.
Han Solo may not necessarily have believed in the Force himself, but it was clearly with Goldschmidt on Saturday.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Heads to bench Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Marte is not in the lineup Sunday against the Marlins.

Marte, who has six hits in his last 17 at-bats and has notched five RBI in his last five starts, will make his way to the bench in favor of Daniel Descalso at second base. Expect to see Marte back in the lineup Monday in San Francisco.

Diamondbacks' Socrates Brito: Falls out of playing-time picture
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Brito is out of the lineup Sunday against the Marlins.

Brito has recorded just two hits in 17 at-bats since being summoned from Triple-A Reno in late May and no longer looks to be in consideration for a full-time role in right field while Steven Souza (pectoral) is on the disabled list. Chris Owings will start at the position Sunday for the third time in as many days while Brito hits the bench.

Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Earns third straight start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Owings will start in right field and bat sixth Sunday against the Marlins.

With Socrates Brito recording just two hits in 17 at-bats since his promotion from Triple-A Reno in late May, Owings has seemingly settled in as the primary replacement for the injured Steven Souza (pectoral) in right field. Owings will pick up his third straight start Sunday, but has yet to fully bust of his season-long slump, which has been exacerbated by a career-low .239 BABIP. Owings is hitting just .187 with a .536 OPS across 167 plate appearances.

I would rather see Marte shifting to SS when Descalso starts at 2B. Among the three, Ahmed does not deserve to get most of the playing time vs. righty starters.

It is also disappointing that Brito has not been able to take advantage of his time in RF. Owings is a weak link at a corner outfield position.

While I started posting that there have already been too many popups by the D-backs today, Steve said that they are going after too many pitches that are higher and higher.

If they don't make adjustments quickly, they will revert back to another 1-run 2-hit game.

Dbacks have one hit but it’s not like May.
They’re hitting lots of balls hard just not in the right places.

What had become the usual 1 run on 2 hits (despite five walks) is the case so far this game.

The D-backs need to incorporate manufacturing runs into their approach. Waiting for 6-home run games is not going to do it.

Anybody else think Brinson put some money on the Dbacks this morning?

Murphy is popping up too much. I hope he doesn't ruin his chances by trying to hit every pitch into the seats.

And Goldy is still hitting popups. Runner on 3B and two outs, he should have been swinging for a single.

Most of the D-backs stopped trying to hit the ball in the air and this turned into a 6-0 game.
