I am not advocating taking Alex Barron with our 8th pick, but with those numbers he may have just helped the Cards out a whole bunch by moving up into the top 10 and hopefully pushing someone down to us. Teams like Cleveland and Tennessee desperately need offensive line help and a workout like that by Barron could cause one of those teams to take a flier on him. Its interesting to read scouting reports on Barron and to hear the Florida State coaching staff talk about him and still he is not projected as a top 5 pick. The Florida State coaches awarded Barron with some rare award that only 3 other FSU players in history have recieved and Bowden says that Barron is one of the very best all around athletes he has ever had at FSU. The scouting report on Barron is that he is a tremendous athlete (obviously he proved that at the FSU Pro Day with the numbers he put up).

Not many 320 pound men have ever run a 4.8 40 and had a 38 inch vertical leap. I heard a NFL scout say one time that the vertical leap is one of the best indicators that scouts look for in offensive tackles. It shows explosiveness or lack of. Back in 2001, the Sporting News Draft Preview did an excellent article comparing Leonard Davis to guys like Orlando Pace, Jonathon Ogden, and Tony Boselli. Davis checked out fine physically with each of these guys with strength and even with speed, but he was way behind each of those guys in his vertical leap.

Makes you ask yourself - "If he's that good an athlete, why didn't he flash more on the field?"

Remember that the Combine does not measure things like toughness, combativeness and production on the football field when they're firing live bullets. Those numbers do provide the athletic "infrastructure"; within which a player can develop to max potential. But they're not an end-all.

Barron could still wind up in the top 10 if for no other reason than supply & demand. But I still don't think that's a lock.

Every major draft site and publication I've read says this guy will go in the fourth found or later. Even with this good of a workout I still don't think it will push him into the first round. Tony Mandarich ring a bell?

I'm sorry I got Barron mixed up with his teammate Ray Willis. Alex Barron they say is a top ten selection.

Plus Barron blew away the record at the combine for the test they give to record leg strength.I don't know what the the test is,squat, leg press, or something but he was off the charts.
