Possibly. But in all actuality, Mike had only three games left in a Cards uni. He wasnt coming back and that made it much easier to cut him now.
If Floyd does win a ring with the Pats Im sure it wont have the luster or mean as much since he'll have little to do with them winning one. Unless, he lights it up in the playoffs. Then I'll say, good for him.

Oh, I think he would enjoy a ring just fine.

Floyd had a bad year. Last year he had a good year & I would not be surprised to see him excel in New England. We need a kicker and a punter and a center who can gt the ball to the holder. I think we have lost 3 games because we could not kick or punt. I do not understand why teams overlook these positions. They are not glamor positions but they sure lose or win lots of games. Do not expect to just pick these guys up off the street. You need to draft them.

And how about LeGarette Blount?
...dbs
Him too...and he did well with Pats, then got his payday with Steelers and sucked again...had issues...gets cut and goes back to Pats and succeeds...again.

Floyd's DUI could give been a very good thing for the Cardinals. He is very well liked by Palmer, Fitz and others and I think they would have gone out of their way to help him deal with his problems. Cutting him was a huge mistake. Fitz said he couldn't really say how he felt about Floyd being cut because it would ruffle some feathers. So now you have key remaining players who are not pleased with what BASK and Bidwill did. How helpful is that?

The Cardinals need scouts at the 'punt, pass and kick' competitions lol

Good stuff here. Not emotional just some honest facts. I really wonder if the Cards Mgmt has lost the locker room with this move. Time will tell.

Yeah as really hate he was cut. But still Larry and Carson are two class acts all the way. Cardinals management may have lost points with the players.

I have been a big Floyd supporter but he has not been consistent and now the DUI. I am a Cardinal fan and not part of Larry's 'Minnesota family' as a reason for keeping him. though I sincerely hope he cleans up his act... and there has also been the nagging injuries of late too

Big whoop! The guy was gone in 3 games either way. He doesn't have time to learn the Pats playbook and still sucks at catching the dam ball. Seriously doubt that he has much if any impact. And let's not assume the Patriots are going get to or win the Super Bowl, the AFC is not going to be a cakewalk. Raiders, Chiefs, Baltimore, Pitt all are more than capable of beating a hobbled Pats team. Floyd is a moron who got loaded and passed out in the middle of the street, absolutely no reason he should have been behind the wheel just pure stupidity. And I doubt the Pats would even pay the type of money he is going to try and get next year, this is a stopgap move to try and save their season after some tough injurys. Smart teams make moves like that instead of just wasting the season after some injuries, and more over he basically fell into their lap with the DUI. I was down with Floyd 5-6 games ago, runs weak ass routes and gives up on them far to often, oh and he can't catch a cold this season! Some team will pony up some money for him and be sorely disappointed.

As far as the "lost the locker room" talk these guys are all professionals and they know that it came down to a business decision. I know that Fitz and MF were/are close but he'll realize after he has had time to reflect, that it was the right move. Larry and others wouldn't feel this way if he would have injured one of their family members, and realize what he did was he endangered the public.

I have had to fire people I work with, and it hurts them and the other staff if they are well liked.

I had other options, but in some cases, I felt that if I didn't fire them, they wouldn't realize how negative their current behavior actually was. Floyd is young and has the option to recover from all of this, and my kneejerk response differs from most in that I thought cutting him was a good thing. It shows the severity of his actions to the organization, it allows him 3 weeks to make a case for himself on another team prior to his free agency and it lets other players know that if you want to be considered a leader and get a multiyear contract with the team, the expectations are higher for you in terms of performance and off-field behavior.

How BA handled this in the locker room is unknown so far, but I am glad that he won't talk about it during his pressers.

One of the popular narratives floating around is that the cutting of Floyd was done in part to send a message to the rest of the team.

I have to now think that him immediately being picked up by the Pats takes a ton of the thunder out of that message.

Getting released from the sinking ship that is the Cardinals right now might not be quite the capital punishment that the Cards brass believes it to be.

I just saw on Revenge of the Birds that at worst the Patriots will pick up a compensatory pick. Is it really that easy? If that's the case, that explains why the Patriots made the move.

If Floyd suddenly plays like an all pro and catches everything in sight, then the question I have to ask is why did we not see it in 13 games with the Cardinals?
Because unlike BA and every other coach in the NFL, Belichick knows how to use the Jedi mind trick. That's how he got Matt Cassel to be an all pro QB with him and a slug everywhere else.

Your right. Floyd was a higher price loss player. I was thinking 7th or later pickup. My bad.

Comp picks are awarded primarily based on the value of the new contract signed by the Free Agent. Floyd probably won't get a huge contract due to:
  1. Having a terrible year
  2. Going to be Suspended for DUI next year
My guess is he will get a one year prove it deal from whatever new team signs him next year.

That might equate to a late 7th rounder. IF that is the case then it would be like an UDFA like you mentioned before.
