Foles would get huge support from Wildcat fans including many from the Phoenix area. He would be able to feed the ball to Fitz often.
Yeah all 5 of them. C'mon half the reason I despise Foles is cause of U Of A. I'm confused with the feed the ball to fitz? Like he would be able to cause of U OF A? or he just naturally would? Lol this night

Ever since I answered “Foles” to Mitch’s question about the best backup QB option I’ve gotten emails about his availability. It’s odd. He signed a 5 year, $27 million contract with incentives in 2017. Tops out at about $11m per year. The contract has a weird clause. He has to be traded by 2019 for the last 3 years to be activated otherwise he’s a free agent. The intent was he’d end up starting or likely force a trade to a team looking for a starter. While it’s true Wentz’s injury is a concern, Foles’ value will never be higher. Philly will take the long view and trade him. I think Mitch is off by suggesting our 15th, though crazier things have happened. I think someone might go a second rounder.

34 year old Alex Smith, coming off a career year but being a proven playoff choker, got the Chiefs a 3rd plus a very good CB. And that's while everybody knew the Chiefs couldn't afford Smith' contract and have invested a premium in promising Pat Mahomes.

Foles is just 29 years old, 5 years younger than Smith, and the reigning Superbowl MVP who knocked out GOAT Brady in a shootout! The Eagles aren't forced to trade him. They have him under a reasonable contract while they still have Wentz under control for 2 years on his rookie deal with a 3rd year option. Anything less than a 1st round pick for Foles would surprise me, if they want to trade him at all.

Eagles have best offensive lines in the NFL. Folks never got sacked. Eagles also have good set of wrs and TE. Not sure how good he would do here with our porous OL and lack of quaintly receivers other than Fitz.

Link?

The only thing I can find on Foles 2017 FA contract with the Eagles was two years for $11 mil total:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...rns-to-philadelphia-eagles-on-2-year-contract

http://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/philadelphia-eagles/eagles-agree-2-year-deal-qb-nick-foles

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ick-foles-returning-to-eagles-on-twoyear-deal

A 5 year $27 mil would be a unusual for a back-up QB???

One thing that caught my attention during the middle of the SB game analyst chatter was how the Eagles coaches Pederson and Reich got together and looked at the plays Foles had success with on his first go-round with the Eagles.

Recall that Foles looked at best average in a few of his games after Wentz went down. The coaching staff used the bye week to tweak the O playbook to match what Foles can do best.

McCoy has stated that he plans to do the same. Some coaches look for players who match their playbook . . . 'The System works' . . . while other coaches tweak the playbook to match the players . . . and win the SB.

The Pats have a mediocre D (at best). The also benched their best CB Malcolm Butler, reason not fully explained:

Even Brady's SB record 500+ passing yards---with his best deep threat Cooks out of the game early with a head injury--was unable to overcome the lousy Pat D going up against the Eagles O.

This.
Foles has a very trade-able contract and is very valuable. No way he's worth a first, but someone will give up a second rounder or more. Philly needs to clear some cap room for 2018, so.... :grabs:

I'd take him in a heartbeat for the Cards if the price were right.

Here we go  Knew it would happen, this knee-jerk "Ohmergerd, we HAVE to have him!" reaction to Foles.

No. No thank you. No third rounder, no second rounder, and certainly no first rounder. Mitch, you really have lost your mind--and this is compared to all your insane "these trades would make sense!" posts.

It's a nice story, and he earned himself another shot with another team. Please don't let it be with the Cards.

Sorry, had to look for one. I got my info via email which I was not at liberty to reprint. I think this has most of the story.

BTW the comments on the Eagles’ strengths and Rams weaknesses make it clear Foles benefited from a near-perfect scenario. I’m think career performance has more weight than a short term run. I will admit surprise at what was paid for Smith, but the Skins were under much pressure for their handling of Cousins.

Foles was amazing in his first Eagles stint. He did a very good job replacing Alex Smith for a couple of games with the Chiefs. He lead a vastly different Eagles team to the Superbowl. Became Superbowl MVP outscoring GOAT Brady.

On the flip side, he sucked for the Jeff Fisher coached Rams. Keenum and Goff sucked for Fisher's Rams too - both of them went to the Pro Bowl this season.

It was a great short term run, but Foles had success under various circumstances, while just failing once for Jeff Fisher.

I think Foles is at least a league average starter. Personally I wouldn't risk a 1st round pick, but I would fully understand if somebody pays that price. Any good QB is tied to his coaching to some degree. Some really good QBs fail all the time because coaches don't put them in position to succeed. Some not so good QBs win a lot of football games because of coaching. If Keim trades for Foles and McCoy has a plan in place, I wouldn't mind a lost draft pick.

doesnt Philly have to see Carson Wentz healthy for some period of time before they can even think about trading Foles?

Further -- if i am the Eagles, i take Wentz' recovery conservatively. No rushing back, etc

it suggests maybe a mid-2018 season deal........

Statistically, Foles had the great season ever as a Eagles QB. Won the first ever super bowl for Eagles by beating Brady to the punch. First ever QB to catch and thrown a touch down pass in a Super Bowl. Won the Super Bowl MVP. Has a top 5 playoff QB stats in the history of the league. Yet, rightfully, Wentz will start at QB in 2018.

For ever, fair or not, Carson Wentz will be compared to Foles's achievement in Eagles land. It is a tall order to come close or even upend it

Yet, rightfully, Cards should stay clear of Foles. Strange world it is!

I just can't get over a team "having" to bench/trade a Super Bowl winning, MVP QB. If I'm Philly, Foles gets to keep playing until he proves he can't. Wentz may have great potential but when did that become worth more than actually producing and delivering on the biggest stage? Big regular season numbers don't mean he'll replicate them in the post season.

And they’ll still want him at the trade deadline next year.

Unless they get blown away by an offer for him, I see no reason why they’d move him in the offseason.

Other than having the dynamic of Wentz starting, Super Bowl MVP on the sidelines, and the pressure to pull Wentz anytime he is less than stellar.

The link provided looks pretty sketchy---more like some fan forum report or write-up than an actual vetted news report.

Still looks like a 2 yr. deal for $11 million.

I can't make any sense out of the 5year /27.5 mil contract requirements---"the final three years of Foles' deal void if he's on the Eagles' roster 23 days before the start of the 2019 league year, i.e. mid-February." So, if he is off the roster before then, the deal is still valid?

Because they gave up a lot for Wentz, and he was having an MVP caliber season before he went down. He's the future for that franchise, and if he's healthy, it would be a mistake to put him on the bench and create a controversy. Foles becomes a FA next February if he's still on the Eagles roster. They can choose to keep him as insurance in case their franchise QB is not healthy to start the season, or they can sell high on him and get good value this offseason.

Eagles are heading into the next year over the cap already. Trading Foles is like $7.0+ million in cap relief. Plus, you can't have the Super Bowl MVP sitting on the bench behind a young, developing franchise QB. That'd really be a nightmare, especially in that town. I think Foles gets traded and I think the Cardinals may be the lead team vying for his services. His contract size is terrific and it buys them time to see if he is the guy or if they want to develop someone behind him.

I almost wonder if he wasn't the top guy on Keim's radar going into the off season and his performance last night just made our GM's job that much harder.

I don't dispute what you're saying, it's a tough spot for the Eagles. But what is actually winning it all worth vs. potential? It's a rare circumstance but I still value that Foles actually went out and played well in the playoffs and got the ring. The consensus seems to be that Wentz would have done the same or more but I just don't know. The bright lights can affect each player differently.
