The defense just seems to get better and better each week and have far exceeded my expectations. Bowles has really figured out how to get the most out of the players on defense and fit his man to man scheme. I am very happy to see how this unit has progressed and I could not have been more wrong about them up to this point. We still need an edge rusher however. I would really like to add Khalil Mack in the draft, but I think we go QB or OT instead.

Agree with all the positives about Bowles and the D. Even though I've been screaming for a pass rusher in the draft I do think we need to go QB in rd1 if an elite one is available. If not then LT. If not then PR.

Old Abe was a beast again today. Dudes been lights out bringing heat the last three weeks and I don't care who it was against.

2 sacks and another close one. Going up against Duane Brown who is one of the better tackes in the league. Didn't we lock him up for 2 years? I think he has at least another year in him.

We desperately need a good young edge rusher, but Abraham will suffice until we find that guy.

Yes. 2 years.

Sure.

Just when the offensive line thinks they have it squared away, Dansby and Washington start blitzing the A gaps, and we have all seen the delicious sweet havoc the create in the backfield of opposing offenses.

So much fun to watch this defense.

On that crucial fourth down play, they were in man cover (hell, they are almost always in man). Blows my mind. I'm eating so much crow on that.

Dockett was virtually useless last season. I think, at the very least, the Bowels Movement should get credit for putting him in a position to succeed, which wasn't the case under Horton.

Dockett earned his paycheck yesterday. Glad he is on our team. Someone blocks a field goal besides Campbell. That may have well saved the game for us. We sure took it to the Houston QB in the second half. We played a different game in the second half than the first on defense. We recognized that rookies QBs can get upset with defenders knocking them on their butts.

Patrick Peterson is much better than most give him credit for.

This defense is about personnel and Bowles being smart enough to get out of the way.

The GM gets alot of credit. Adding Abraham, Mattheiu, and Dansby has been huge.

Side note: We need to draft Abraham's replacement this spring. He will not be able to keep up this production for long.

Why? They've gone from 5th in passing yards allowed last year to 18th this year and from 10th in passing TDs to 17th. Oh well at least they're not 30th and 28th like the pre Horton/Bowles years.

Meanwhile they've gone from 28th to 3rd in run defense. That's an amazing turn around.

If you can stop the run, you make the other team more one-dimensional, they are going to pass, pass, pass... until you pick them or sack them or get off the field with a turn-over.

If you can't stop the run, your toast.

This defense is a ton of fun to watch and I think Bowles > Horton; PP1 was giving Bowles a lot of credit so he agrees with me!

Disagree with this completely. Bowles second half adjustments are the best I can ever remember from this franchise. Texans had 41 total yards in the second half yesterday. That is absolutely unreal.

But teams in the NFL are pass, pass, pass on purpose. The NFL rules are set up for that. So they're already one dimensional. Heck New Orleans and Denver never run the football. :D

Denver is 12th in the league in rush attempts per game. Saints are 21st.

I see the smiley but not sure it's true intent so thought I would give the stat man some stats. :)

It's an interesting topic because there is no easy answer. The 10 teams that run the ball the fewest has only two teams (Bears and Cards) with winning records at this point. Cowboys and Dolphins are at 500 record wise. This bottom ten group includes the Jags, Vikings, Steelers & Falcons. That tells me that the teams with losing records are getting behind in games and having to throw the ball to catch up which skews this stat.

Then you have arguably the best team in the NFL (Seahawks) who have the most run attempts per game. 49ers are 2nd. Of course both of those teams lean far more on their D to win games then their Offense.

There is more than one way to win games in the NFL but being able to pass effectively is the best option.

Because they were getting burned like crazy in preseason, and I figured there would be no way we'd play man in the regular season like that, since we seemingly sucked at it, and Bowles was just seeing who could play without scheming. Then in the regular season, more man. And I thought, crap, we are gonna suck.

But nope, we cover adequately and stuff the run. Good times.

No the best option is to have a first round QB. :)

As for New Orleans the announcers last night were making fun of the Saints saying the run on their first play was their mandatory running play for the game and from then on it would be nothing but passing. So the smiley.

BTW 5 of the top 10 teams in passing yards per game are in first place in their division. Broncos, Saints, Lions, Bengals, and Eagles

And of course there's the Washington Redskins who are 10th in passing and 3rd in rushing and are 3-6.

Yeah but that's the same Texas team that had exactly 1 touchdown the the 2nd half of their last 6 games.

Gotcha. It's amazing how often the announcers know less than fans.

This is why I call you the stat man. I throw something out there and you get more info that I didn't see.

Crazy right. Their D is horrid so there is that.
