lions and bills won. if we'd of lost, that puts us two spots closer. carolina blew a game thanksgiving weekend. if they came that close once, it was possible again. if they'd have beaten us, they would have just needed another chance. bengals are talented enough to win one more game. that would have placed us first, i believe, due to the fact that we've got the easiest schedule in the league (which should further indicate how meaningless yesterday's game was . . . we've won 4 of 13 games against the easiest schedule in the league, that 1 win isn't going to push us over the top . . . in any way, shape, or form).

that said, i'm not totally down on yesterday's performance. as i said, i'm happy to see fight. glad to see washington make a play. and though skelton wasn't absolutely atrocious (but he was FAR from good), he didn't turn the ball over or take a sack. not bad for a first game.

Exactly how I feel. It's not like I was cheering on the Broncos to win. I just know that the Cards will have to give up their 1st round pick next year and the year after if they want Luck. I'd still do it.

That's what everyone said about Leinart and Manning too. I think the fact that he attends Stanford makes it more likely he stays in school rather than declaring for the draft. It's a great place to be.

but manning showed leinart that you can stay and remain the #1 pick. leinart showed luck that you can stay and drop 9 spots and 10's of millions of dollars. a smart guy doesn't lose that money. a guy attending stanford doesn't lose that money. his stanford education will still be available if he comes out. the #1 slot may not be.

Sure. Who wouldn't? But, in the meantime, we don't know if Luck is even entering the draft and then no is no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to the draft. Might as well pass the time trying to get the players who are actually here to play as well as possible.

i don't disagree with you. i don't think many of you are getting what i'm saying. i don't want the team to tank. i want them to fight. but if they're terrible, i don't want them to have an aberration win or two here and there either. i'd rather they play down to their level to increase the likelihood of increasing their talent level to be great and not a 4-12 or 5-11 team. i'm disappointed that we won, but happy we're not tanking, if that makes sense.

now nba? if you're middle of the road, i say tank.

Hey, Ouchie, are you saying you would have been okay with starting Bartel at QB, and Jason Wright at RB, to make sure the Cards lost out?

I am just not sure how the Cards could have lost to Denver otherwise.

I don't like being in a stadium where 1/4 of the people are fans of the opposing team. It gives me satisfaction to see those fans sitting in their chairs and remaining quiet. Perhaps being at the game gives me a different outlook. Regardless, to each his own. :)

so you get your 1 or 2 chances to feel that way this year, meanwhile for the rest of eternity we suck.

guess what, cheese, daves and i went to the cards/chargers game this year. we got to be those guys remaining quiet. and we're going to remain those guys (and you will be too, at home no less) for a looong time if we're never bad (or lucky) enough to get a franchise quarterback.

ah, just keeping things light in a dark season. and when haven't you received strange responses from me?
The funny thing is I was right there with you on "tanking" until I saw the Cards had a shot at beating the Broncos. :)

Been there and done that. How did that work?

There are plenty of teams with decent franchise QBs that didn't get them with the first pick of the draft.

I don't feel the need to apologize for cheering for my team or being happy when they win a game. We have a difference of opinion and that's okay.

hmm, maybe.

i have to say, i was shocked at just how bad denver was. they were putting on an aerial show earlier in the year. and frankly, despite weird wins (let's be honest, we barely beat a rams team starting a rookie qb in his first start, we won on a sick seabass missing a chip shot, and we won a game where the only offensive td we scored was on a levi brown fumble recovery), we have looked (and ranked - offensively and defensively) like the worst team in football. my non-cardinals football fan friends from around the country were sending condolensces to me after MNF 'cuz they recognized that we were the worst team in football. i just couldn't see us beating, much less whooping, anyone, much much less a team with a competent offense.

I had Orton passing all over the Cards. I even thought Moreno would run all over them.

Somehow, the Cards were even completing passes against Champ Bailey. Weird.

we had a shot at manning. we josh mccown'ed our chances. that's how it worked out.

You know I'm not talking about Manning. Who IMO is far from an exciting or great "franchise" QB. Regardless of his SB victory.

I will take Larry over Manning all day everyday.

no, no need to apologize. but you did sort of call a lot of us out with this thread. i mean, it's titled directly at us.

and you're right, there are plenty of teams with decent franchise QBs that didn't get them with the first pick. but a larger percentage of #1 pick QBs end up being franchise QBs than any other single pick in the draft, so i'd prefer to play the odds.

Do you think Manning would have stayed had we had a chance to draft him? Something tells me Archie would have pulled the plug ojn that deal, just like he did with Eli.

It was after the game and I was excited. Been a long time since I had something to cheer for at U of P. (Sadly, I was out of town for the Saints game.)

larry is a better football player. manning would have made us a better franchise long-term. larry is dependant upon a lot of things going right for him to impact a game (see this season). if this team had manning instead of larry this year, tell me we wouldn't (a) likely be better and (b) likely be winning the division.

We haven't bad enough to get a franchise QB. (excluding Leinart as we all know that cutting him was a mistake)

the importance of a qb has never been so obvious as it is this year. we've had the easiest schedule i can ever remember and we're still going to finish with 5 or less wins.

now a lot of different variables contributed to that. i recognize that. it's not just the qb. but you put a competent qb with this team and it's ability to compete increases exponentially. do we all of a sudden become a defensive juggernaut? of course not. but we're competitive. and it's amazing what competitive juices can do for the team as a whole.

we'd be in the thick of things with a competent qb.
