The Eagles have Saquon Barkley on the roster at running back, but there is not much else outside of Will Shipley, Lew Nichols, and Tyrion Davis-Price. With free agency set to kick off officially on Wednesday, Miles Sanders was available after being released by the Carolina Panthers.
The move created $2.95 million of dead cap for the Panthers while freeing up $5.2 million of salary cap space. Philadelphia didn't bite, signing former Packers running back A.J. Dillon to a one-year deal. With Sanders looking for a new team, he's joining the Eagles rivals, the hated Dallas Cowboys.
Sanders spent the last two seasons here after signing as a free agent in 2023 following the Eagles' Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs. Since then, Chuba Hubbard has taken over as the starting running back and was given a long-term contract extension last fall.
In two seasons with Carolina, Sanders had 184 carries for 637 yards, three touchdowns, and 51 catches for 302 yards and a touchdown.
Sanders logged 1,269 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns for the Eagles in his final season, and his 3,708 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in his first four seasons were good enough to land in the top ten all-time in franchise history.
