Iowa freshman Cooper Koch announced on social media Wednesday night that he will enter the NCAA men's basketball transfer portal, while "staying in contact with Iowa men's basketball program."

"I grew up dreaming of playing for the Hawks," the former Metamora all-stater said on social media, "and having that dream become a reality has been truly amazing. The bonds I've made with my teammates, coaches, managers and staff will last a lifetime."

Koch went onto say that he decided to enter the transfer portal, but will remain in communication with the program. Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery was fired earlier this month, setting off a mass exodus of players leaving the program. Koch is the sixth to enter the transfer portal. Iowa has yet to hire a new head coach.

The 6-foot-8 forward played in 10 games for the Hawkeyes during the 2024-25 season, averaging 4.6 points and grabbing 2.1 rebounds a game. He shot 42.9 percent from the 3-point field and 48.4 on fields. His father, Morton graduate J.R. Koch, also played basketball for Iowa.

During his senior season with Metamora, Koch averaged 17.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the 30-win Redbirds. He was named first-team all-state by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and Illinois Media. Koch spent his first three high school seasons at Peoria Notre Dame.
