The high school soccer playoffs have quickly arrived at the regional semifinal round.

With the new split-division format employed by the UIL, teams need just two wins to qualify for the Round of 16 and four teams from the Coastal Bend are fortunate to still be playing.

The London boys soccer team joins the Pirates' girls squad along with the Calallen girls and Rockport-Fulton girls playing Friday, just two wins away from a regional crown and berth in the state semifinals.

The split division format has eliminated single-site regional tournaments and back-to-back regional semifinals and regional finals.

Here is what you need to know about the four remaining teams.

London boys

How they got here: Def. IDEA North Mission 4-0; Def. Brownsville Jubilee 5-1

The London boys (18-2-1), undefeated District 29-4A champions, are in the regional semifinals for the third time since 2021, a rare feat for Coastal Bend boys programs. Only London and Flour Bluff last season have advanced as far since 2006.

The Pirates are seeking a breakthrough to the regional final for the first time and face Austin Achieve in the first game of a double-header in Poteet. Achieve also advanced to the regional tournament in 2021.

London girls

How they got here: Def. Vanguard Rembrandt 8-0; Def. IDEA Robindale 11-0

The Pirates won District 29-4A with an unblemished run through the district and sit 22-4 going into a matchup with Canyon Lake in the second game of the double-header in Poteet.

London has yielded three goals since district play began in early January. The team is also no stranger to the regional semifinals with five appearances since 2018. The Pirates are trying to reach the regional final for the first time.

Calallen girls

How they got here: Def. Hidalgo 5-0; Def. Port Isabel 11-0

Calallen was edged by London for the District 29-4A title but the Wildcats have made the regional semifinals in every season since moving to Class 4A.

The Wildcats (16-8-1) are the lone school in Coastal Bend soccer history to advance to the state tournament, reaching the Class 4A state championship game in 2021. Calallen has outscored two playoff foes 16-0. The Wildcats lost a flip and will travel to 23-1 La Vernia, the District 27-4A champions.

Rockport-Fulton girls

How they got here: Def. Vanguard Beethoven 4-2; Def. Brownsville Jubilee 4-1

The Pirates (16-7-1), in the second year of a resurgence under coach Travis Rasbeary, are back in the regional semifinals for the first time since 2017.

That 2017 trip was the third in three years for Rockport-Fulton. The team is still looking for its first trip to the regional final and draws Wimberley in Yoakum on Friday.
