This is a huge surprise to me. 46-18 while he was there. Weird

John Fox and Broncos mutually part ways after four years

Posted by Darin Gantt on January 12, 2015, 5:18 PM EST

That escalated quickly.

A day after losing in the playoffs, the Broncos are now looking for a head coach.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Fox and the Broncos have agreed to mutually part ways.

This move seemed like it was coming with the reports and counter-reports about his future there, and how it related to the future of quarterback Peyton Manning.

Now, he’ll rocket to the top of the lists for teams looking for head coaches, and Chicago and Atlanta figure to be of particular interest to him.

Fox went 46-18 in four years with the Broncos, after a 73-71 stint with the Panthers.

Like Manning, he's good in the regular season. Not so much come playoff time.

I wonder if this impacts Bowles...If Fox were to head to ATL, would Bowles really go for NY or Chi? I don't see him going to a team that's an offensive mess.

Harbaugh and Fox hired in 2011. 90 combined regular season wins. 7 playoff appearances. 2 Super Bowl appearances, both no longer with team.

why atlanta should prefer an old coach succesfull with manning as a qb with one being succesfull with a team without superstars

Fox is a Defense specialist, like Bowles...Fox has already shown, as a HC, that he can deal with star QB's and can work well with an OC that handles all things Offense...oh, and ATL has Matt Ryan, a very good QB.

Fox is a coach that already has the experience that Bowles lacks.

The #Bears had been considering a veteran coach to pair with a young GM Ryan Pace. There wasn’t one available. With John Fox, now there is

All True;

I am thinking more and more , that Todd Bowles will be back as our DC next season , and I would be very happy with that .

The #49ers are expected to meet with and make a final push for #Broncos OC Adam Gase tonight, source said.

Jeff Darlington @JeffDarlington
Member of the Broncos coaching staff tells me that the entire staff has been notified during group meeting that can/should “look elsewhere."

This says a lot...It tells me that Fox left, because Manning is leaving, too, not because they want to retain/promote Gaise for Peyton. If Gaise was staying with Manning, it wouldn't make sense for all the other coaches to be looking elsewhere.

I think that was pretty much a given considering Manning changed his tune yesterday about his playing future just weeks after saying the opposite

John Fox: “I am eager to continue my coaching career and look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.”

Bottom line he is available for Bears, Falcons, etc jobs.

Doing more digging on Broncos opening - would actually be very surprised if they went in-house, including Gase. Won't be M. Shanahan either

Fox isn't great in the post-season, but he's still coached teams to 2 Super Bowl appearances and 3 conference title games, TWO of them with Delhomme at QB. And he somehow won a playoff game with Tebow.
