i know somebody mentioned this on the hartwell thread but fox sports radio says the cards may be bluffing about james to force hartwells hand. they went on to say that they had sources telling them the cards are planning on going after a cb in the first round and are really high on jj arrington as a second round selection at rb.

In the past couple of days I've speculated two of those exact things.

I think the interest in James is fake and we are only trying to force Hartwell's hand. I don't believe that any player the Cards are truly interested in that Green would come right out and say "We're interested."

I think the Cards are going Pac Man Jones/Rolle/Derrick Johnson(if no Hartwell)/Alex Smith in the first round and coming back with Barber/Arrington in the 2nd.

Right now I want Hartwell over James, and I think its the right move. Bolster an already young menacing defense and address the RB issue either in the draft or via other trade options (Bennet or Henry). This is a deep draft and I think we'd be stupid to pay up the a@! for a RB right now. This is how I see this panning out over time.

Sign Hartwell
Resign Hill
Draft (Rolle/Rogers/Jones)---in round 1
Draft (Morency/Fason/Arrington)---in round 2

Good ideas except for rd 2. We can't go into next year with Morency/Fason/Arrington and Shipp/Hambrick.

We need a feature back and that still leaves us trading for Henry or James.

Or Bennett. Somehow I think that's plan B for Green.

Honestly...as much as I don't like it, Bennett is probably the most likely candidate. No freakin way would I trade anything higher than a 3rd rd pick and preferrably...the Starks 3rd rounder.

how do you know that one of the second round picks can't be a featured back? It happens all the time. One of those guys will probably be picked early second...not to big of a jump from when Jones got drafted last yr...damn we were so close to getting him :(

Disagree. Cowboys fans were probably saying the same thing last year, "We can't go into next year without a feature back." But Bill Parcells is a top notch talent evaluator and picked up Julius Jones in the 2nd and he looks like a steal.

Dennis Green is no slouch in the talent evaluation department either. If we go another direction in the 1st round other than RB. You can bet your bottom dollar that Green sees a feature runner in the 2nd round of this draft.

I disagree. I think we could go into the year with Shipp or Hambrick as the starter and be fine. If a RB that we draft works out, all the better.

This is a pretty deep draft for RBs, I think. There's a lot of guys that will play well in the NFL by the end of the season. Cadillac, Benson and Brown may be more of day-one type guys, but there are plenty of day-fortyfive guys out there that will make a huge impact on some team THIS YEAR.

An example of the type of guy I'm talking about is Julius Jones or Kevin Jones. Those guys didn nothing in the first half of the season, but by the final month were arguably the best 2 backs in the nfl.

I think we are going to go CB in round 1. With the deep RB pool, if someone slips to us in round 2, we take them, otherwise, best player available. We can then try to trade for Henry or Bennet after the draft.

Heck, if we wait until after June 1, it actually opens up more cap space for us as we can defer half of the hit from the players we are talking about trading until next year.

I'm pretty optimistic that Rod and Denny are going to fill all of our holes.

Go Cards!

The Cardinals have been "filling the fans' holes" for years.

No way, a short yardage back and a yet to be proven everydown back. We need a proven commodity or Warner will have a new personal sack record. Someone other teams will truly be weary of, not just a defensive afterthought. If we are going all out to make dramatic changes to get us to the promised land, a proven free agent running back must be in the equation or Warner will look like Jake running scared. JMO

too much garbage

Look, some of us are desperate for any Cardinals information that leaks out... these threads that look meaningful and are filled with garbage conversation are annoying. I don't want to read about Assface's Quiche. (though that is fun to say).

Right now I want Both Hartwell and James. Then Draft CB at number 8 then draft Matt Jones as a TE in the second round. go RB in 3A and go WR in 3B.

Now we are a super bowl contender. If we just stay health that is...???
