Harry: I think you are being overly critical of Dexter Jackson. He's 25 yeard old and has been starting for 2 years. He had 4 interceptions in his first year as a starter. Last year he was all over the field making plays. And for him to play as insctictively as he did on the world's biggest stage, speaks well to this young man's ability. The thing is, Harry, we haven't had a safety with his range and insticnst in a long time, and with pass happy teams in our division like the Rams and 49ers, having an ahtlete of his caliber protecting the deep passes is a major asset.
I also think you are being a little too critical of Hodgins. So what if he's not a major threat as a pass receiver? The man can make LBers cringe on the isolation plays, something, once again, the Cardinals haven't had from that postition in eons.
As for Jeff Blake, the Cardinals got him at a very reasonable price. He's got the arm the Cardinals have so desperately needed, that we may be pleasantly surprised at what a solid, experienced QB can do to move the talent we have on offense.
You say that we won't be able to do much more with the remaining $18M of cap room. That's very hard to believe. The Cardinals should be able to sign five or six more good, solid free agents and still have a good $7M left for the draft and late acquisitions. With $11.2M the Cardinals, for example, would be able to sign C Jeff Christy ($1.4M), WR Curtis Conway ($2.2M), DE Chidi Okeafor ($1.8M), DE Vonnie Holliday ($3.2M), RB Emmitt Smith ($1.4M) and WR Germaine Crowell ($1.2M). Emmitt might be a luxury, but, hey, the guy could inspire this entire organization and I think that at $1.4M with incentives, he's worth the investment.
