harley and walter..I made a point that $18 million is enough $$$ but on your list we still do not have an above average pass rusher. Holliday is better against the run..and I am not sold chike is anything other than an average pass rusher.. Your scenario works if dennis johnson has been working his butt off this offseason and sitting around watching film all day of great pass rushers (to learn some technique).. Only our coaches know this. I will say that last season..he was generally the 1st guy on our team to the qb - usually a step or two late - and they seemed to roll away from him at times (which is why we need 2 pass rushers)..he did not register many sacks..but the potential seemed to be there if he improved his technique, hit the weight room and our tackles improve enough to draw more double teams..

Excellent Post Walter-

what a great post Walter. I have been very depressed along with everyone else lately, but this afternoon was a blast. I agree with everything you said and I am very high on getting number 22, I think it would really spark everyone. He still plays his tail off!! Job well done Mr. Graves.

Holliday is a good runstuffer...and an average pass rusher...with the pass rush being something his talent was supposed to be..

But the guy makes plays...The guy takes up a lane...The guy is a bada$$..

Besides...if holliday is an average pass rusher at worst

I ask...

Who on the cards in pass rushing is average at best

MAYBE KVB...I like him...I love his hard work..and he will get better..but his production is still a ?????? But I think it'll get going...But add a guy like holliday who is better...can play dt and de...get him

I'm not sold on conway or crowell...but they wouldn't be bad..I probably would go with crowell and (martay/sanders)

Christy would be a NICE pickup

I agree with your comments about smith..no doubt about it.

Okefor would be an upgrade...but I would rather have sam adams for dt.

The thing about our dl, is that we don't need average bodies...we need 2 good-great players. Push the rest of our starters back into SUPERSUBS...I feel that if we were to get 2 of these guys we would accomplish our goal of having a decent line at worst and probably quite a bit better (holliday, adams, okeafor, suggs) None of these guys is or could be GREAT except suggs, but the rest are definitely good...

Harry: I think you are being overly critical of Dexter Jackson. He's 25 yeard old and has been starting for 2 years. He had 4 interceptions in his first year as a starter. Last year he was all over the field making plays. And for him to play as insctictively as he did on the world's biggest stage, speaks well to this young man's ability. The thing is, Harry, we haven't had a safety with his range and insticnst in a long time, and with pass happy teams in our division like the Rams and 49ers, having an ahtlete of his caliber protecting the deep passes is a major asset.

I also think you are being a little too critical of Hodgins. So what if he's not a major threat as a pass receiver? The man can make LBers cringe on the isolation plays, something, once again, the Cardinals haven't had from that postition in eons.

As for Jeff Blake, the Cardinals got him at a very reasonable price. He's got the arm the Cardinals have so desperately needed, that we may be pleasantly surprised at what a solid, experienced QB can do to move the talent we have on offense.

You say that we won't be able to do much more with the remaining $18M of cap room. That's very hard to believe. The Cardinals should be able to sign five or six more good, solid free agents and still have a good $7M left for the draft and late acquisitions. With $11.2M the Cardinals, for example, would be able to sign C Jeff Christy ($1.4M), WR Curtis Conway ($2.2M), DE Chidi Okeafor ($1.8M), DE Vonnie Holliday ($3.2M), RB Emmitt Smith ($1.4M) and WR Germaine Crowell ($1.2M). Emmitt might be a luxury, but, hey, the guy could inspire this entire organization and I think that at $1.4M with incentives, he's worth the investment.

Walter, I love you man!! Thats the Bud Light talking. :D I do agree with this scenario. The next couple of days could prove very interesting. More than enough money to go around and make this team a contender.

Tango would NEVER shut up and I wouldn't even mind. [/B]
If all of that could happen, would happen, then I would be checking the curtain to see if the Wiz is actually RG. And yes Tango could flap his piehole for the better part of the next 6 months..and I would say..." You tell em Tango...YOu the Man"........

Another great post Walter,

Man does it feel good to have a positive feelings again about this team.

It's also good to have posters having some fun. The Tango posts are funny as hell.

Let's grade the signings:

Blake B+ He is the guy I wanted all along because of his experience and ability to throw the long ball. Finally we can utilize the speed we do have at the WR position. Blake will prove to have a better season this year then Plummer ever did here and at a lot less money.

Hodgins B+ Finally the Cards get a true lead blocker. I would actually want the Cards to sign Makovicka as a back up / injury insurance and let Mckinnley go.

Jackson A Now the Cards finally have the Safety tandem they had hoped for with KLass and Wilson. Name a team with a more athletic set of Safeties, hard to do.

Darling C I'm not excited about this but at least we do have a need completely filled on one unit on the team. Sure if a stud LB falls to us in the draft we could take him but LB's can be ignored for the first time in.... well forever.

So the team needs in FA are a pass rusher, center and a vet wide receiver. Anything else is gravey and we still have 18 mil ? to spend.

If they get the players still needed in FA then the draft needs are down to DE, DT, CB and depth at O-line.

Darling

"Darling C I'm not excited about this but at least we do have a need completely filled on one unit on the team."

Darling may be better than a C......someone who can play all 3 LB positions......can play during passing downs......is a super special teamer......after all he was a second round draft choice(oops my bad...so was Johnny Rutledge haha!!)

I agree with the grades for the others....however Jackson may play like a B- if we don't get a pass rush!!!

I hope your right about Darling and fully admit you may be. I just didn't want to sound to much like Tango (this is fun). Hope your feeling the love Tango as it was not meant as a slap.

I also agree about the D-line, but at least now we can afford to draft one in rd 1 and or 2 and still persue some talent in FA.

Rome wasn't built in a day but the foundation for the Cards future sure was. :)
