From Deadspin.com;

• Sad to report that the paralyzed Texas high school football player who inspired the Jason Street character in Friday Night Lights passed away on Wednesday

definitely back - looks like DTV was brough in as a parternship to save the show - 13 episode season 3 will get a full run on DTV and then will be rebroadcast on NBC after the super bowl in 2009

http://directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPage.jsp?assetId=P4560014

NBC would begin broadcasting the Season 3 episodes of the Peabody Award-winning drama on Fridays (9-10 p.m. ET), starting soon after NBC's telecast of the Super Bowl in 2009. DIRECTV would have exclusive rights to the season's 13 new episodes beginning Wednesday, October 1 on DIRECTV's entertainment channel "The 101."

The only thing I don't get is how Lyla Garrity & Tim Riggins can still be in High School. Smash graduated though...

I don't think they are in HS anymore - seems like they did a bit of a time jump as well into this season, unless I missed the completion of last season

the teaser for DTV tonight is something like - Coach has job uncertainty after losing championship game, (lalya/tyra ?) struggle to get into college, new family moves in, Mrs T is principle of the school and smash is struggling recovering from injury and billy proposes?!

Smash and Jason Street will only be on the show for about four episodes this season, and then they are gone...

Review I read said Riggins, Lyla & Tyra were seniors now...Smash & Street were getting phased out the show and Matt Saracen will have new competition from a Freshman.

will be interesting to see - if so, I agree as that doesn't make much sense to me

saracen was definitely a soph in season 1 while it seemed riggings/lyla/tyra/street were all of an age ....... the drinking to TX together and stuff like that - part of the dynamic was matt getting accepted into that world and I presumed the upper classman as well

the jumbotron was pretty sweet, but I have a feeling that saga is just starting - coaches wife is going to have a mess to deal with

still not sure if i'm comfortable with all those kids being seniors this year, but I got over it pretty quick

very good season start episode, lots of high quality moments

That was a good episode, although it really is hard to buy Tara, Lyla & Tim as Seniors when the show never gave the impression they were sophomores in season 1.

So will Coach T get Smash healthy enough to get a shot at college football? According to the reviewers & critics Smash only has 4 episodes all season--1 down.

How long before Saracen pushes himself too far and makes mistakes and ends up getting benched for the new kid?

Seems like the new QB is being groomed for future episodes, he's a Freshman, Jason Street clone etc...
I think they'll bring in some more teen characters along the way as the Seniors get older and graduate

loved the episode last night - matt showed up to battle which is great, wonder what it will do for his phsyche going forward all things considered

the whole layla with riggins family thing was a bit painful - just a bad spot to be in - made me cringe a bit like the Office does

all in all a great episode
