Really dont understand all the Frye love Ive read on here. This mans BB IQ is only slightly higher than Greens. He might be a great locker room presence but on the court he's a one trick pony, when he's on. Teams would abuse him nightly because of his defensive liability and lack of rebound prowess. His matador defense wont be missed nor will his streaky 3 pt barrages. His only value was he stretched the floor because of his 3 ability but the Morri can do the same but with better D and rebounding. Thanks Frye for my stress free 2014/15 Suns season!

"I felt like they were saving money for other things," Frye said. "They were not close enough to me to take it seriously, which makes sense. It's a business.

"You have to be somewhere you're wanted. I felt like the guys who have been there for years became a side note."

Phoenix was always in play," said Frye, who attended Phoenix St. Mary's High School and the University of Arizona and joined the Suns in 2009. "It just came down to Orlando selling me on what they wanted to do for the future. They made it clear that they wanted me. They weren't going after any big-name players, and they wanted to develop their young guys."

Lol Frye sure sounds salty.

BS about the guys "who have been there for years" becoming a side note. If that was the case then we wouldn't have resigned Tucker. If that was the case we would have traded Dragic.

And that last part, he seriously thinks McD didn't make it clear they wanted him back? McD and Babby said a thousand times in public that they wanted Frye back.

Wow. When you hate on a guy you really hate on him. I'm pretty sure he's talking about the regime change that started with Babby and culminated with McDonough and Jeff's arrival. I'm also pretty sure he would have felt wanted if they'd courted him the way they did Thomas or if they locked him up the way Orlando did. There was writing on the wall and he read it correctly. They were ready for him to move on. This seems like much ado about nothing, it's not like he trashed the organization or the fans.

As I read the Paul Coro article, my feelings were that Frye wanted to be a priority item while the Suns chased stars.

In a quote from the article:

"You have to be somewhere you're wanted. I felt like the guys who have been there for years became a side note."

I'm sorry but Channing Frye was not a priority signing. A team cannot be built around Channing Frye. Maybe if he had waited around, he would have gotten the money he wanted or better yet, he might consider the loyalty the Suns showed to him when he was out for a season with health problems. Perhaps he should have shown the Suns some patience.

IMO, Channing walking was all about... show me the money. I can understand this aspect but not the rest. Frye took the best offer and he ran with it.

Absolutely, doesn't read like he wanted a ring, just the dollars. Upset we tried to get big star players? Well, duh. Doesn't sound like the attitude of a winner to me.

Um what? That has absolutely nothing to do with what he's saying imo.

He's pissed cause we went after LeBron, Melo and Bosh instead of signing him first. And then he says that he likes how Orlando didn't tell him to wait and went after him right away.

Mainstreet sums it up pretty well but its clear that if Orlando had the chance at any of the stars we went after, then they would have told Frye to wait as well.

No GM in their right mind would sign Frye right away when they have a chance at getting star players.

I LOVE how he says he wanted to stay here. Um well bud if you wanted to stay here, then why did you opt out of a contract that was going to pay you $7M next season?

And you bring up Thomas, and AGAIN, we only went after Thomas AFTER LeBron eliminated us. We told Thomas to wait as well. Here's the difference: Thomas isn't complaining about that because he has common sense to realize that LeBron, Melo, Bosh etc are much bigger than him (not just physically).

Frye sounds like he didn't give a damn about winning in PHX, he cared about making money in PHX. And that's despite the Suns being the team that rejuvenated his career back in 09 and gave him that fat contract extension in 2010.

Exactly. I won't blame him for that because its his decision its not right or wrong but him complaining that we went after other stars is ridiculous.

I think you put about the most negative spin on it you could. So I'll give the positive side. I simply read it as Phoenix tried to get him at a discount so that they could sign the big names and Channing felt undervalued as a result.

I have no problem with what we did and I have no problem with Channing for taking the money. I also have no problem with his comments. They just aren't that bad. He acknowledged that Phoenix made the decisions for business reasons and he understood why they did it. There was a mild negative undertone to his comments but that's also understandable, it happens more often than not when two parties go their separate ways.

I didn't hear Channing Frye mention that he is a soft Power Forward and then, even worse, Center.

If he could have contributed as a stretch-4 on offense and been solid on defense and rebounding in the post, no way the Suns would have let him go. But he was average or better in only one aspect -- 23 feet from the basket on offense --and weak in the rest.

I think back to James Edwards. If I remember right, he shot from far out on offense, but on defense he was a presence down low.

Did you watch when Frye joined Tom Chambers as co-analyst on some of the pre-game TV shows the year he was out? He was constantly (and obnoxiously) stepping on Tom Chambers' lines.

Frye had not earned the right to jump in and try to take over #1 analyst spot. That was when I really started dis-liking him. He put his ego before common sense in dealing with a situation.

Some of his self-centered quotes above come as no surprise. 'Too wrapped up in himself without having earned it.

And I'll say again, if he could have contributed as a stretch-4 on offense and been solid on defense and rebounding in the post, no way the Suns would have let him go. But he was average or better in only one aspect -- 23 feet from the basket on offense -- and weak in the rest.

Channing Frye will be missed terribly on this team. He has a unique skill set that the Suns can not duplicate with another player. But his health history and the rise of Markieff Morris made signing him (to a contract like Orlando offered) unwise. They had to let him walk.

Wow. I have only thought of Channing as a good citizen. I have never heard anyone talk about him being self-centered.

And well, I have already said my piece on the rest. No point in being a broken record.

Was Frye's option pay a "discount"? If Channing really wanted to stay in Phoenix, he had the option to stay. He chose to decline his option (which I believe was close to $7 million)...
I think Frye is one of the good guys... However, at $7 million I think he would've over paid... and certainly, $32 million from Orlando is ridiculous for a guy who can't start, is inconsistent at best and can't defend worth a damn...
I also have no issues with his comments...though, I am sure he would've much preferred to have had the Suns offer him a long-term deal. So the Suns get out of overpaying Frye and reload with Tolliver at $3 million per... Makes sense to me...

I'll praise Frye for what he did, and wish him well, but the interview of him in the Republic yesterday made him sound like an idiot.

He felt like we were focusing in on and paying attention to bigger fish, and that upset him? What a moron.

So he was mad we were looking at Lebron, Melo, and others? He does realize he's a role player, and that we were focusing in on trying to get a STAR player. He does realize that he had a contract but opted out, and thus his situation was added late to the party right?

He does understand how the cap works right? Get to the max by signing OTHERS and then re-sign your own.

Is he interested in winning at all? Oh he signed in Orlando, nevermind.

I'll wish him well, but he created the situation he was in, and he knows what we were trying to do because it was the plan talked about for at least a year.

Just seemed really dumb for him to comment like that. One year removed from his heart situation, and the Suns stayed faithful, and yet HE talks about not being respected or wanted even though he added his chip late and is not the superstar we were looking for? Looney tunes thinking there Frye.

Thank you for your service, and I'll always like you, but you let your head play tricks with you.

Not only that, the Suns are the reason Frye is relevant in the NBA. He was a SCRUB who was keeping the benches warm in Portland before coming to Phoenix and Gentry & Nash created an NBA career for him.

Robert Sarver: Channing Frye gave Phoenix Suns 3 minutes to match Magic's offer

In July, the Orlando Magic lured Channing Frye away from the Phoenix Suns, signing the unrestricted free agent to a four-year, $32 million contract.

Some Suns fans may still wonder why the team didn't match the Magic's offer for the versatile power forward. On Friday, Suns owner Robert Sarver provided some rather revealing clarification.

"To be honest with you, we didn't really even have a chance," Sarver told Burns and Gambo on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. "He had mentioned he was interested in coming back, and then when he was talking to Orlando, he just called and said, 'Hey, you've got three minutes to match this offer.'"
