Florida State's women's basketball's second all-time leading scorer, Ta'Niya Latson, announced on her Instagram page that she committed to South Carolina on Tuesday.

Latson is coming off an All-American junior season in which she led the country in scoring with an average of 25.2 points a game. She has also broken the single-season scoring record with 731 points, surpassing Sue Galkantas. Latson was the fastest player to reach 2,000 points as a junior.

The day before her announcement, she posted a thank-you letter on her Instagram account to Florida State for the last three seasons:

These past three years at Florida State have been some of the most memorable of my life. This place has challenged me and helped me grow both on and off the court. It gave me a platform to make a name for myself, and for that, Florida State will always be a place I call home.

To Coach Brooke—thank you for believing in me, for giving me an opportunity, and for pushing me every day to become the best version of myself. I’m so grateful for everything you’ve done and continue to do.

I want to also thank my teammates and the rest of the coaching staff for being apart of my journey. We’ve been through it all together, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group to go to battle with. Thank you for the memories.

Losing Latson is a crushing blow for the Seminoles after coming off a 24-9 season. Head coach Brooke Wyckoff must replace her top three scorers, which include Latson and seniors O'Mariah Gordon and Makayla Timpson.

The Seminoles lost to LSU in the second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. Latson entered the portal on March 27. ESPN's Charlie Creme rated her the No. 1 rated player portal.

Latson will not only play for head coach Dawn Staley but also reunite with her high school teammate, Raven Johnson. The Gamecocks lost to UConn in the finals. Adding Latson could make South Carolina an early favorite to return to the championship round next year.
