Future Still Unsettled Without a QBOF

With a nerve related shoulder injury to Palmer, I'm starting to feel concerned that we could be heading back to the post-Warner era at the QB position. Granted, we have a far better GM, which translates to a much deeper & talented roster. But, I hope we don't wait until the last minute. Bridgewater looks like the real deal & we passed. Stanton is a fine back-up, but he's not the future. I liked picking Thomas in the 4th round, but it's way too soon to know his future. Bottom line, most of us thought Warner would play another year or two, but it ended suddenly. Palmer is no spring chicken. Can we bank on him playing another couple years??? I certainly hope the Cardinals learned their lesson.

We didn't take Johnny Football when we had the chance. I don't see us taking a QBOTF anytime soon. I think it's going to be Palmer for a couple of years then he and our whole coaching staff will retire.

In a way it's a lesson you can't afford to learn. Every time you spend a high pick on one of the supposed sure-thing QBs of the future, that's one high pick you're not spending to help the current team win. We're behind the eight ball right now because of the age of our last two real QBs but once we find our guy, grabbing the developmental QB every couple of years is the better way to go IMO.

We might not now this season whether Thomas is likely to become our QBOF but I would hope the coaching staff does. And if they don't know today, they should have a pretty good feel on it by the time we start making decisions about our next draft.

Bad example IMO. I'm not sure we'd have taking Johnny Football even if DA and Hall were still headlining our QB group.

This is what can happen when you reach for a QB. Anyone think Tennessee and Jacksonville think maybe they should have taken JJ Watt instead of their reaches. Or the Vikings just take a legitimate lineman for either side of the ball.

So, while it is nice to say we need to get one, it's not all that easy. We had a QB plan in place coming into the season. So far it's worked out.

I was heavily on the Teddy Bridgewater bandwagon, and while I like Bucannon, I think it was a mistake passing up on Teddy.

Good topic, because there is no doubt there is no QBOF on the team that I would deem reliable.

Yet, when talking Cardinals QBs, we all know there are worse things than Drew Stanton.

Teddy Bridgewater might have a fine career, or not. Too soon to say. If he were with the Cardinals, he would PROBABLY be two years away from getting a chance to play. For us the future is now. And for now we have a QB, and we seem set for the next couple of years.

With that kind of hindsight, we probably should've taken J.J. Watt instead of Peterson.

In the chat yesterday, Darren Urban said that this team never would've drafted Blaine Gabbert and never considered him an option. That's utter hogwash. If the Cards didn't like him as a prospect, why did Michael Bidwill fly the senior staff specifically for a private workout with the Mizzou standout?

I don't know about Thomas, but Stanton in this offense is better than Kolb, Lindley, Skelton, Hoyer, etc., etc.

The more important point is that Drew Stanton and Logan Thomas are under contract for the 2015 season. Stanton for an absolute steal at less than $3M that year, although there are escalators in his contract that could increase that number to $8M.

Based on his performance so far this year, I don't have any reason to believe that Stanton can't deliver a Matt Cassel/Brian Hoyer level of performance.

he did get hurt in that one game, has a very small frame that I dont think will last in the NFL unless he has superior protection and even then it will be difficult.

It can all be cured if Bucannon makes a key play that helps get us into the playoffs, especially if we somehow go all the way. I don't care if TB is the best QB of all time, he wouldn't be contributing anything to this team this season.

To be honest, I really think Thomas has the chance of being out QBOF. He has the tools, just need to hone them in a bit. Give him a year or so of training with the coaches. I just don't want him thrown into the mix right now if Stanton goes down. Could be another Lindley all over again.

What the past staffs did developing QBs has nothing to do with the current staffs ability to do it. In fact, some of our staff are considered the top QB developers in the league.

After watching the Patriots this season I'm not sure they have one skill player or offensive lineman that would start for us other than Gronk. This offense would be so dangerous with Brady.

The only reason I'm even entertaining the thought is because BB has zero feeling of loyalty and Kraft fully trusts him (and they already have their QBOTF). In all seriousness Brady would only go to the Cards or Texans.

That is your opinion. Mine is very different. I see a QB that has more upside than Russell Wilson and can make a team win with both his smarts and big play ability.

You forgot about Rodgers, Luck, Matt Ryan, Foles (probably a maybe) and judging by the fact that we're seeing NFL QBs play great into their late 30's Rivers, Rothlesberger both have at least 4 more good years in them too.

Logan was just a shot in the dark. Put him on your team, watch him in practice for a year. See what he can turn into, because no question hes one of the most physically gifted guys in all the NFL.


But he was too broken to begin with. In all his time at Virginia he never improved. Surely he will improve a little being on an NFL roster with NFL coaches, but not enough to be a franchise QB.


Keim said hed like to take a QB every year, and I agree with that. A year is long enough to know if a guys got it. Logan doesnt.

Hogan, Cook, and Petty are 3 QBs (not in the top 15) who will be options for us.

You have to add Brees, Brady and Romo to that list. Today's league is so much less physical for quarterbacks and receivers that their careers will be extended.


Also Smith, Flacco, Cutler and Eli are what I consider franchise QB's even though they're not elite by any means... Not sure about Philly. The Eagles could trade Foles and go with Sanchez and it wouldn't really surprise me.
