Moves like this do not evoke confidence in the FO or the coaching staff. They just let the three best tacklers on the team go in FA. Yes, they signed a baller in Bethea, but he's 33 years old. And now they sign Dansby, at age 35?

Mitch you are also talking about how the Patriots do things. What would they have done?

Just watched the presser.... I am ready for the season now. Los is going to really have a huge emotional impact on the defense.

This is what is lost to some posters: the defense severely lacked leadership at times. Rashad Johnson was the leader, he walked and there was a vacuum.

Bethea and Dansby will fix this.

I'm shocked to see this much hate for this signing. The defense lacked leadership last year, that was apparent. Karlos is a huge upgrade mentally from Minter, and I'd almost bet he's an upgrade athletically. You add in the leadership he brings, this is a huge get for us this year.

I don't understand it either. Dansby has never done anything for the cardinals but play his ass off and play well. I guarantee he will get at least a couple of sweet interceptions. Think about how many ints and passes defended by our lbs since dansby left. You can count them on One hand. Dansby will do more than that this season.

is there really a lot of hate about this signing? Just cause Mitch doesn't like it and a couple others, doesn't mean it some kind of sweeping sentiment.

Mitch you are also talking about how the Patriots do things. What would they have done?

First of all, Krang, they wouldn't have 5 players take up 1/2 of the salary cap. Yes, they have the luxury of Tom Brady taking a team friendly salary, half of what he could command. But, still, overpaying a handful of players and making the cap top heavy, in their opinion, is not the way to build a championship caliber team. They have a knack for signing their core players to good, but not bank breaking long term deals well before they become UFAs. Gronk made $7M this year and Julian Edelman made $4.3M.

Secondly, they would have traded Campbell and Jefferson to get something in return if they knew, as the Cardinals did, in advance that they weren't going to sign them long-term.

Thirdly, they would have signed D.J. Swearinger to a deal like the one they just gave FS Duron Harmon---with a base salary of $4M a year plus incentives that could boost it to $5M per. They don't mind quirky players if they produce---like RB LeGarrette Blount, CB Aqib Talib and TE Martellus Bennett.

Fourthly, they pull off trades for other team's underachievers...like the one they made today for DE Kony Ealy, because they are confident that they can develop projects like Ealy.

Fifthly, I do not think they would have had any interest in re-signing C A.Q. Shipley if they drafted a center in the 4th round and they will draft another one this year to push last year's 4th rounder. They draft 2-3 OL every year and keep pushing the youth along. If they see a veteran like Nick Mangold on the market, they would see if he would be willing to take a market friendly deal. Yet, I do not think they would sign a 35 year old UFA ILB like Karlos Dansby because they would rather go with younger defensive players---so they would trade for one or take one early in the draft like they did when they drafted Hightower.

Sixthly, they wouldn't give any player $53M in guaranteed money, which is the main reason why they traded Chandler Jones. This year without Jones they schemed their QB pressures and did a great job, without marquis DEs.

i guess we will sign 3/4 Free agents next days, not sure dansby will be the starter, i assume he come here with a Dwight Freeney tipe of contract

New England always have a plan, speficalliy cheaper replacement who can almost offer the same performance
Jamies Collins traded, Elandon Roberts in
Chandler Jones gone, Trey Flowers in
Cheap and younger players ready to produce

But everything is easy if u have Tom Brady behind the center

This is the only place I've seen people slagging it. It seems like people on radio are pretty happy about it.

Dansby, Dawson and Bethea can be roommates in Sun City West. There is your next Amazon Prime show. The Golden Boys.

Not digging the age they are adding. Definitely boom or bust
They were spotted together in a diner.

Tom Brady. It's the answer. Everything you are saying is possible thanks to him.

Brady could realistically ask for over 30 million per year, but he makes a fraction of it.

Players play for less because they know with Tom, they have the chance to win a Super Bowl.

The Cardinals don't have Tom Brady. This invalidates any comparison.

I think the team is vying for a Geritol or Metamucil endorsement. Man not really thrilled about this off season so far.

This defense has severely lacked leadership, we saw last year what Minter and some of the young guys did on the field. Without question leadership was a key in signing Dansby imo and again I take him over Minter all day long! No reason at all to not like this move.

But the caveat is that they have Tom Brady and are winning Super Bowls which gives them a huge advantage over other teams. You want to play for a winner. Your endorsements go up, you become high profile. Granted they have a proactive approach that works and they deserve credit for taking advantage of being 'the Patriots' but their approach would not exactly work for the other 31 teams unless you do have probably the best QB of all time and possibly the best coach in the modern era :)

I think what we're forgetting is that the pressure is off NE.

We need to think about how we're pushing for that 1st one. Look at all the posts about window this and that. NE doesn't have that pressure.

(also rebuilding isn't a predetermined path. Sometimes you need to drop low, sometimes not... sometimes luck plays a hand. Overall there is no one set way. When faced with it, you make the best decisions you can, and maybe at some point if you fail, you go down the rabbit hole... but that's a long way off, even when Palmer retires it's not an automatic path/strategy.)

But it's not just potentially here, Keim and the entire ownership/FO might be feeling that too.

NE is gifted with the ability to play the ultimate long game, and they are.

We don't have that luxury. We're trying to win a championship while still trying to be year and year out competitive. We simply aren't in the position that NE is.

Well I like dansby for being a past card but isn't he pretty slow now? I hope we look at a few speed lb in the draft.

Like that dansby is back with the cards and he will retire as a card now. :)

He had 114 tackles last year so he didn't do too bad.
