Well, here we are about an hour and a half away from the potential end to the Suns season. Any predictions? I'm just hoping that the Suns give them hell and do not go quietly in the night. Although it's damn near impossible, and I wouldnt even take 1-100,000 odds..the Suns still have a shot. One game at a time, right?

Winning 4 games in a row is not a tough objective. Winning 4 games in a row against the Spurs is like winning 30 in a row during the regular season.

I'll be in the chat cursing about the lack of effort and bitching about the officiating. I hope the hardcore fans decide to join me: http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/chat.php

They're...not...quite...dead...yet...! Hey, I think I see a pinky twitching.

Someday that record will be broken. But it would take a team with tons of confidence, at least three All-Stars, and one hell of a floor general.

I'm prepared to write off the series, but I'd love to see them win Game 4. The team deserves one more chance to be cheered by their home crowd, even if it is in a season-ending Game 5 loss.

It would be great for them to win game four...just to avoid a sweep. In my opinion, the Suns are winning tonight. They are going to come out with a fire we've never seen. Final score? 104-100.

Too little too late.

Actually I think this game is more important than just avoiding the sweep. This game is huge from a mental standpoint in being able to show that we CAN beat the Spurs with Tim Duncan and Ginobli in the lineup. It may not be much but it gives this team hope in the offseason knowing that if they play their style of basketball and are able to defend as well as rebound somewhat efficiently that they can beat any team.

They just need to beat them once with those two in the lineup to get rid of that mental edge. We don't really have a chance in the series but a win tonight and possibly game 5 would be very good in the long haul (and I predict thats exactly what's going to happen ... we win the next 2)

Agree Ash. We'll see what this team is actually made of. Who knows, they may be able to scrap together two wins. I would practically be wetting my pants if they tied the series. Could you imagine a game 7, after the way the series has gone?

Spurs are 5.5-point favorites tonight.

It's been a tough series for the Suns. IMO they were underdogs for each of the four games so far, because they don't match up with the Spurs at all without Joe Johnson--they needed to be full strength at home to be favorites, and that hasn't happened yet.

Then, to top it off, the Spurs have played uncharacteristically well, even for them.

I don't think a sweep would be the end of the world for this team. The Spurs got swept by the Lakers a few years ago. The Orlando Magic got swept by the Rockets in the finals one year. (That's probably a bad example.) Obviously, a sweep would drive the team and the players to improve over the offseason.

Still, I'd like to see the Suns fight like hell tonight.

Here we go...

I just hope we kick the living caca out of them.

I'm sick of hearing about "Sunset Boulevard".

Only "practically"? I can't imagine what AWA would be like if this series somehow made it to a Game 7.

Our running is all good, but when we don't spend time boxing out it kills. us. Especialy when the team shoots a good field goal percentage, and still gets offensive rebounds.

DE-FENSE DEFENSE

Sorry for not making game previews/threads for the past two games. I have been out of town and only recently came back today so I had no time to make one. I will get one sorted for game 5 though.

The Spurs are a great team, but i lose all respect when they start flopping like they did in this game. Resorting to that weak **** is embarrassing.

:)

Also, Joe Johnson is a stud!

With these type of performance i can almost hear other teams out there licking their lips.

We HAVE to keep him!

great game!!

they were finally able to play Suns style basketball in the 3rd quarter and somewhat figured out how to get the defensive rebound ... all five guys going after the ball !!

now lets make some adjustment to lower their offensive rebounds and we will be back in the series

come on !! LETS WIN ON WEDNESDAY :jedi:

Confidence was the only question on Joe. But he showed up in the playoffs, went down with the most terrifying fall this year, and bounces right back with 100% confidence. Amazing. I think he has arrived.

We are completely different with him in the game. Now we are back to the "pick your poison" offense. Bowen can guard JJ or Marion, but not both.

And he couldn't even guard Joe tonight.

And, OMG, that was the greatest block I have ever seen!

lol, Nash was answering a question in Spanish I believe (I wasn't following along until I heard him speaking another language, so I'm not sure why) but afterwards a reporter in the background said, "no wonder he's the mvp." Good stuff!

In this game, Amare makes all the difference. When he loses focus like in the first half and a couple of minutes in the middle of the fourth, we are in big trouble. Then most of the second half and particularly the final minutes, he was paying attention, sticking a body on Duncan to allow Marion get the rebounds, the sick block, etc.

And Joe was really huge. Calm, particularly down the game. Made only a few unwise decisions. He is getting tougher. But the savvy and grittyness Manu has over him is still huge.

Q was quietly great. He was containing Manu as well as anybody can. But on switches, he still showed what Dunleavy said that he didn't play much defense back in Clippers, in that he couldn't stick his body to Duncan the moment he hit his screen. His taking charge on Duncan was huge too.

You have to give it to the Spurs that they dictate how the refs call the game. Amare's decisive block would have been a foul, had Duncan and Horry not shrown in much more body into his layups without being callled particularly late in the game. Manu got his continuation and-1 right away, while in exactly the same case it took them minutes to give it to Nash after Horry's foul. Horry was clearly in the non-charge circle where Nash was called for offensive foul late in the 4th. The last second drive in the first half, Manu was extending his leg way too long that kicked the body of Hunter without anything else, another and-1.

However, the preached non-contact philosophy by the Suns is partially to blame. The refs were already forced to call when Duncan was tricked by Nash's fake, but Nash didn't change his mind from passing to making a last-minute shooting motion, which everybody on Spurs' and Mavs' team would have done. Sigh!

We were also lucky that Duncan missed so many free throws.

But we showed heart late in the game and if we can keep our focus a bit more consistent at protecting defensive rebounds like we did in the second half, we still have chance. Most of us had hoped for a split in SA anyway. Now we got it, we got confidence, or at least I hope so.

PS: DA did better job taking timeout and slowing down the pace. In the fourth, while Duncan was out, we had two turnovers both involving Amare when we were rushing to shots, and DA made them slow down to go back to the patient halfcourt game that just led to a 3pt initiated by Joe's mismatch with Parker downlow that forced double team and we passed 3 times to the corner. That's good sign. The Spurs didn't get our shooting % down to win games. They did it by controlling the offensive boards and forcing turnovers via their defense. We have to overcome these two issues to come back into the series.

Go Suns!

What happened to the MVP free-throw line chants for Duncan? :p

Fitting, wasn't it?

I seriously can't remember Jjax playing in the game that much. I remember him dribbling the ball a bit but I forgot about him completely. He ended up with 8 points in 21 minutes though, go figure.

10-15 shooting for JJ? I wonder if he's gonna stick with that mask like Rip Hamilton. hehe

I believe he hit 8 of his last 9 shots. It's like he never got hurt. Whats really impressive is that its not too unusual for him to go on a streak like that. He's become one of the top shooters in the NBA. And we have rights to him.
