I don't know, of course, what goes on behind the scenes. From my perspective, Godley is anything but consistent.
I truly believe his ceiling is long relief, which is the only thing he's earned since being dropped from the rotation.
Remember that he is a lousy fielder who falls off the mound (from the degree of mediocre to horrible) and he can't
throw overhand to a base. So he can't hold runners on 1B and can only throw out a comebacker underhanded.
As a starter, as he proved, he is flawed! It is best for the D-backs to move on.
Of course Godley is flawed, but so are all of our other current starters outside of Greinke. In my opinion, he is still a better option than taxing the bullpen automatically by starting Archie, and a way better option than any healthy pitcher we have in the minors currently (with our top prospect in the minors, Widener, doing his best Shelby Miller impersonation in Reno)...
