After game one:

Of more concern to the two-time defending league MVP was his belief that there were times the Suns did not play with the intensity required for a matchup of this magnitude. The 33-year-old point guard knows that the window for winning championships will not be open forever.

"This is the toughest matchup for us," Nash said. "They've got size, sort of a collective toughness you have to deal with. They've got experience and they play hard. They're extremely disciplined.

More Photos"I'm at a loss to explain why we think that we can go out there and not outhustle them and outwork them and win games."

D'Antoni said the Spurs were mentally tougher than the Suns on Sunday.
"We all collectively have to pick up our energy and concentration, our mental ability to get over the hump," he said. "They put `champion' by their name for a reason. There's a lot of guys who will never be in this position again. I told them today `This could be your only chance in life to be a champion, so we're going to have to dig harder."'

After game one:

What's your point? The comments Nash made were about respect for that team. It didn't sound like he was in awe of any Spurs mystique to me. If you read all the comments after game 1, they talked allot about their own effort and their lack focus and energy. That sounds like a team that feels like they should have won or a team that feels like they can win to me. They respect the Spurs as they should.

hmmmm, I'm thinking there's a generation gap/communication misunderstanding here, seeing as I think that I'm apparently the one who called you a "damn skippy", to which I think you replied that it wasn't polite to cuss to a lady, which I complete misunderstood until I just read this post. When someone says: "You damn skippy!" that's not calling someone a "damn skippy" (whatever that means) - it's a goofy way of saying "I AGREE!".

and if wasn't me - well, then, IGNORE THE ABOVE!

Prey tell though, was your prediction for Game 1 perfect as well? And I just have to ask looking at your profile (and this IS NOT meant to be offensive, just pure curiosity) - are you really 104 years old?!

1. Understandable misunderstanding -- I'm not used to you agreeing.
2. No, I was a little off in my prediction for Game 1 but I blame that on Nash's nose.
3. If I was 104 years old I would have been asleep six hours ago. ;)

Your the only one that has ever described the Spurs has having a hold on the Suns.

If anything the Suns just needed to get over the mental hurdle of believing they could take the Spurs. That has more to do with confidence then being in awe of the Spurs.

Seems like a "mental hurdle" is pretty close to being a "hold" and "mystique" is just a fancier word for either one (an aura of power surrounding something). After Game 2, Nash definitely did comment on breaking through the "psychological barrier" -- which is more of the same. If they can take Game 3 they will have smashed the psychological barrier, cleared the mental hurdle, broken the hold, the mystique will be gone, and we'll all be happy. That will still be true if we lose #3 and take #4, but #3 would make us happier.

I think it was Curt Schilling who said, "'Hurdle' and 'Barrier' are just strippers down at the local club."

That's a paraphrase. He said "Mystique" and "Destiny" are just ...

Schilling also said a lot of other things, but never could explain how he knew the names of two strippers or the name of a local strip club. ;)

I think the Spurs' 'mystique' is simply a refelction of the fact that they actually do lock down in the playoffs. But the Mavs beat them last year, so they're not invincible.
