Well, Brady lost too. Luck is out. Rodgers throwing pick 6s. Its a winding road.

For those not paying attention this kind of what the Lions do. Safford has more 4th quarter comebacks that anyone in the NFL.

One of the things that bothers be about this board is the term "quit" and the whole this loss is this guys fault it's that guys fault. You know sometimes you got to give credit to the other team when they beat you. Only one team in history has gone undefeated.

I've even seen here when this team has had a winning record and we lose the term "quit" gets thrown around. No sometimes you just lose. It just kind of let's me know what kind of man is making those post.

We always handled him in the past.

You're right. It is only 1 game, but this game was so "last year" it's hard to feel confident that things have changed. Especially when Palmer keeps throwing the ball right at defenders and the new STs captain doinks a 32 yard chip shot off the crossbars and a rookie 3rd WR owns Justin Bethel. But, you are right, Nash. You are. Emotions and fears are raw right now.

DJ never really got going and then was out for much of the second half. To me it looked like they were not prepared for Detroits defense at all. Losing Hump early was a problem as well as Wetzel looked awful much of the time. This game was a combination of injuries, terrible play, and pretty solid execution from Detroit the whole second half. It sucks but I for one don't believe we saw today what this team is or can be.

Yeah... there was literally NOTHING in that game to hang your hat on moving forward

Yes, though, there were a number of significant positives. The way the defense stopped the run for the first 3 quarters. Bethel played a great first half and maybe he can build on that. Reddick was superb. Bynes was a good factor. Kerwynn Williams played hard. John Wetzel gave up one sack in a spread formation but he was solid otherwise. David Lee was fantastic.

But, man, I get your reaction because at no point in this game was it easy to feel confident. They threw away every bit of momentum they had---repeatedly. Over and over.

I was surprised that JV wasn't moved to LT after hump went down. Maybe he has had no practice at LT, and if that's the case Someone should ask...WHY?

When DJH was out in the pre-season, they kept JV at RT and used JW at LT. Wetzel played pretty well today. He gave up the one sack, but otherwise he battled hard.

Ya I though JW held his own, I just think CPs blindside would be important and I think JV is a better LT than RT....IMO

I totally understand. Maybe they will flip JV and JW this week, although JW is no slouch. Interesting too to see what they do with Alex Boone.

Uh no, he was abysmal. You need to watch the tape.

I will. Every time I keyed on him, he was doing well. Save for the sack by Zettel, who impressed a lot this pre-season. He's a legit edge rusher.

What is it about the Cards specifically where they get a new coach who does well for his first 2-3 years and then the team falls apart. Happening now with Arians, happened before with Whiz. It's like no coach can build a consistent winner here. Might have to do with using quarterbacks at the tail end of the career though.

One common denominator is both Whiz and BA were given hefty raises before their contracts were up. Wonder if that has something to do with it. Steve Keim too. Keim has been awfully quiet and passive the last two years...sitting on early laurels, imo.

They've been among the more active transactional teams in the league. Sometimes they hit, sometimes they don't. No magic involved. They're not sitting around doing nothing. Catanzaro let us down last year, so he's gone. They elected to keep Chandler Jones rather than Calais Campbell with the big D contract. Good enough move based on age and impact. It's just that most of the impact players we've acquired over the last three years have been on defense. David Johnson is our only significant offensive acquisition in recent years.

Our WR's outside of Fitz are pedestrian. Good guys, a bit of talent, but John Brown, Juron Brown, and JJ Nelson are not going to scare off other teams as a group.
The O Line is perpetually a patchwork it seems. Not deep either.
The RB's outside of DJ and the TE's are average at very best. It really is all on Palmer, and if he's off, there is no offense.

Because he needs to prepare for his job at RT in the precious little amount of practice time they have? If Humph is out for any lengthy amount of time, I see that move happening. Don't forget JV had to retrain himself to do everything backward in the short amount of offseason practice time they get.

Personally I'm concerned about Iupati! IMO He's struggled up to expectations & pay for a year & 1 game regardless if it because of injuries or performance. Our run game struggled especially on the left which is our supposed strength side.

IMO big mike gutted out today with his arm injury (he's a tough trooper SOB), but maybe the team is better off sitting him until he's healed using Boone or the rook Holden which I'm not keen on in game 2

Do you think Boone could play RG with Boehm moving to C to strengthen the interior line? Shipley has zero push on run plays.
The sad part is BA likes Munyer as the backup Center over Boehms natural position at C, but I agree that our best Oline.

This, Iupoti did not have a good game and was getting no push at all on the run which is suppose to be his strength

Hi All, I don't mean to hijack your forum. I'm a Detroit fan who lives in Michigan with one of my bad habits reading opposing forums (win or lose) and getting a perspective on how the opposition sees things. This is only the second time I've registered to comment, and even though I'm I Lions fan that endures year after year of punishment - I wanted to chime in.

- You guys had this game early. The only redeeming chance that the Lions had is that CP pretty much stunk the place up.

-Officiating really blew big time - both ways

-Fitz is still a stud. Always found openings, surprised AZ didn't look at him more

-AZ is a better team than what showed up today. I damn near lost my tv after what the Lions showed the first quarter

But, the real reason I chimed in is that you guys are honest. Not just a Homer opinion, but compliments to both sides and it was refreshing to see. You guys really faded after the first half, but are still a decent team. My Lions - despite the win - have a lot of learning to do as well

Just win today and learn tomorrow, I say. If it were my choice I put the best line up I can out there. I'll worry about the learning a new position in practice next week.

First game of the year.

Cant afford to:

Start slow
Play from behind
Get a lead and play prevent
Give up yards on ST's
Allow pressure on Palmer
Let them run at will
Over look Lions

Need to:

Come out strong and set the pace
Keep the pedal down for 60 minutes
No mental mistakes
No turn overs
Dominate both line of scrimmage

Start slow ........................ FAIL - well, Bethel started fast, everyone else, not so much...
Play from behind ................ FAIL - it appears we can NEVER, EVER be behind, or we are toast
Allow pressure on Palmer .... FAIL
Over look Lions .................. FAIL - we let them right back in

so we blew 4 out of 7 of the 'Can't afford to's
and failed on ALL 5 of the 'need to's

what a mess
