Peter Gammons said today on Baseball Tonight that the Diamondbacks are asking around to see if anyone is interested in Shea.

I seriously doubt anyone will be interested in him unless a team loses an everyday third baseman.

Doubt there'll be any takers ... Boston tried for nearly an entire season to dump him. Any chance the D'backs can trade him back to the BoSox for a sidewinding pitcher on their DL? ;)

I doubt we'll get much for shea h. He's not a prototypical 3b. He can hit for .300 but not much power and his obp is average with his high strikeouts. Maybe some pitching prospect would make the deal work....

Throw in Estalella and Hairston and get a REAL quality pitcher, but pleeeze don't let Joe Jr be the one to pick him. He doesn't do well on that at all. I'd rather we pick up a near-ready OF prospect since Terrero is the only guy we really have on the doorstep, and KEEP our pitching prospects. We have Fossum rebuilding, don't forget.

No way you trade Hairston. This guy is going to be a superstar.

The problem is though...Where do you play Hairston? I envision Kata as the long-term solution at 2B and don't know if Hairston would be capable of being converted into an OF....

Hairston along with the likes of Mike Gosling, Craig Ansman, and Doug Devore are what I classify as "mid-tier" prospects that are still in the Minors because their positions are strongly secured at the "parent club" and also there are many prospects at the lower levels that are already projected ahead of them....Realistically, players in that group have better odds of getting something of value in return for them and won't affect the Dbacks development in the process...

They have a surplus of middle IF prospects, but must inject more speed in the OF and need more hard-throwing starters and if that's at the expense of Hairston then that's something they must consider....
