Garnett suspended 1 game for punch at McDyess January 21, 2007
NEW YORK (AP) -- Kevin Garnett was suspended one game by the NBA on Sunday for throwing a punch at Detroit's Antonio McDyess.
Garnett won't play Sunday night when Minnesota visits the Phoenix Suns. He leads the Timberwolves with 22.2 points and 12.8 rebounds per game.
With 5:18 left in the fourth quarter of the Pistons' double-overtime victory over the Timberwolves on Friday night, McDyess knocked Minnesota's Mark Madsen to the floor with a forearm shove.
Garnett then chucked the ball at McDyess, who charged at Garnett with his fist cocked. Garnett was poised to punch, too, and took a swipe at McDyess as he partially retreated.

lucky buggers. . Houston w/ no T-Mac and Minny w/ no KG.

I guess it's tied in the loss column for another day. Thank god we got the tie breaker for now.

Who cares about the loss column halfway through the season? Minnesota is a whopping 20-18 WITH KG, big freaking deal. The Rockets couldn't run with us when they had T-Mac and Yao earlier in the season.

I dont mind your contributions to this board. For the most part, you stay fair and impartial, which is more than I can say for many kool-aid drinking homers that infest basketball message boards throughout the vast internet landscape.

Will we have an easier time beating the Wolves tonight? Yes. Would KG's presence have shifted the odds to win this game in the Wolves favor? Probably not.

I'm starting to think I'd rather have the second round be Suns-Spurs and Mavs-Lakers.

I honestly don't think the Spurs can beat the Mavs anymore and I think they're too too slow to beat the Suns in a seven game series. The Lakers are gonna be a really dangerous playoff team. Phil Jackson puts his players in position to win games and they play the Mavs notoriously well. I'd love to see the Lakers knock off the Mavs.

Don't get me wrong-- I'd love to beat the Mavs and win a championship. But right now the Mavericks are very clearly the toughest competition for the Suns. I want a championship and I really don't give a crap if "the team to beat" gets knocked off before we face them.

Also, as for home court-- Dallas is the least scary place for the Suns to play a game seven. Granted, the Suns play really well at home, but Steve Nash would be a friggin' beast in a game 7 in Dallas.

I'm a cat person. I just love their independence so I guess your stock just went up in my book.

Now tell me more about your family. :)

Is Dirk part of your family? If so yes jk

There's nothing wrong with Dirk. He brings his "A" game every night. Even Nash likes him. I just wish he was on an Eastern team.

I wouldn't be too sure. I would like to think there will be a blowout, but league-wide, when superstars are out of the lineup, the supporting casts usually play better. It's an odd anomaly throughout the league, not just with opponents when they play us.

Perhaps you're just overly sensitive. I was merely responding to your post. I have nothing against you.

is there a 'no shave rule unless we lose' on the suns' players?
Yup. Even the trainer, who was scratching on camera.

Nash isn't comfortable with it . . . but he is going along with it.

It's good to see some levity on a Suns team.

I don't know if we're lucky or not. It's great to keep getting some easier wins, but it's also fooling our guys into thinking they're so good they don't have to take games seriously and still win. When we're playing against good teams that are healthy, our guys are more focused and try a lot harder, which is the kind of effort they need to bring every night regardless of the level of the competition.

George Karl is questioning KG's 1 game suspension. Saying his guy got 15 games while KG only got 1 with same type of actions. The only difference is Melo was involved in a large melee while KG was not. He may be right.

I would say they are somewhat similar actions, but definitely not the same. Melo took a full swing and connected hard, while KG took a half swing that barely got air. You could argue that the intent was the same but the punishment has never been the same for intent and action.

Melo came in an helped provoke the brawl initially and then sucker punched a guy as the situation was calming down. KG was in an isolated incident with 1 other player, didn't land a punch, but did throw a ball. I guess I could see him getting 2-3 games tops for the attempted punch & ball chuck. Karl has always been a coach to ignore facts that don't support his opinion.
