From someone who's followed this team for 30 plus years there's a few things I can say about the draft.

First, I'm not even slightly a draftnick, don't watch enough college football or care enough to make even an attempt to know who's better than who, only opinion I have is that I don't like Vince Young as an NFL QB, I think he's going to struggle but that's just MO which I just said isn't worth squat.

Secondly, this team is rising fast on the talent front and a large part of that has come through the draft. I can tell you one thing that wasn't the case before, what talent we did get was lucky just like a monkey will occassionally type a real sentence if he hacks a typewriter all day.

So whatever happens I think we can all agree that it's better than it was by light years and that the frustrations of the past are largely gone when it comes to drafting players.

DG's main strength lies in building the talent base of the team, this is year three when it should finally payoff big time in wins.

For all that I am very thankful and I don't sweat draft day anymore it's a strength of our team not a weakness anymore, just like current player retention used to be a weakness and is now a strength.

So whatever our draft guys do, they will do well for the most part and that's all you can ask, it's always a gamble but I don't even pretend to know which way it will go, I do believe they are prepared and they have an excellent plan so the chances it will work are much better than they ever used to be.

The one remaining weakness we have is game day strategy, adjustments and overall game planning, it's DG's weakspot IMO and that can possibly be overcome by quality assistants, if they do then we are set.

Let's fire up the draft then the stadium, I personally can't wait.

an excellent piece of writing....fans get exhuberant and hopefully that is just part of the fun....the points made were so correct...and if you go back it is in the hiring of coordinators and ass't coaches...an area we are just getting into shape now...i personally like both the OC/DC and one of those guys is going to be a HC one day!!

the lack of any progress over the years in my opinion can be pointed right at poor coaching...wiley was a bust out here (chicago)...his blocking technique and scheme program was totally out of sink...lindsay was like having a first year med school guy performing high risk surgery one someone...nothing against him..but he needs seasoning...anyway enough blabbing from me...

Rowen, our OC, will be in his second year as an OC, which will help greatly IMO. And Pendy kicks butt already. If this new OL coach is as good as I'm hearing, we're looking at a 10-6 season!!!!!! :koolaid:

Well said. This draft may be the most interesting. If one of the three QB's is still available when the Cards go on the clock, it's going to be very interesting who Green and Co. take.

as a 30 year fan i share the same thoughts as conraddobler. i also agree that rowen will get rollin with the offense. he did a pretty good job in calling plays last season. well at least he didn't call a draw play every 5 plays like woods did.

Im sure the old timers will remember taking a kicker in the first round as well as ESPN back in the day before the fancy graphics when they actually had a draft book.

I can remember them looking frantically through them as they started laughing when they couldn't even find the Cardinals first rounder in their books.

Now things go a bit differently and thank goodnes they do we aren't getting any younger. I don't want to be one of those fans who's 90 hanging on a respirator like the Red Sox fans wondering how I feel just before I die knowing they finally won a Super Bowl.

How can you not like college football? :D

But I hear you. I've been on board since 75'.

I like College Football just fine but as a Mizzou fan, I hardly partake of the national powers enough to learn how good other teams players are.

Texas and Vince Young I know something about because they are in conference but other than that it's sketchy at best.

I can imagine the conversation now, so let me get this straight, you want all day Saturday and Sunday for football besides just the Cardinals and Mizzou?:lmao: :grabs: :soapbox: :talk:

Spealing of Mizzou football I was surprised Brad Smith never really seemed to grow as QB. He is very atheletic and I might take a flyer on him in 5th round.

You'r right about the teams evaluation of new talent - right on.

About the game strategy - I was talking to a buddy at work and he said that's Green's achilles heel. Game day decisions and play calling. Leaves something to be desired many times. I'm sure many of you remember the Carolina game last yr. when on 4th and 5 with enough time remaining McCown went for it all. It's stuff like that - that needs to be more closely scrutenized with Green.

But yes - hopefully the Co-ordinators do a very good job this yr. They have the potential and now personell to.

Brad Smith is a great kid, truly a wonderful guy, I've met him and he's very humble and just a very good kid.

I followed his whole career and he tried, there are stories of him throwing literally hundreds of passes to anyone who'd catch them and even into trash cans late at night when no one was around, just never seemed to develop any kind of touch on the ball especially deep passes.

He has pretty good arm strength that's not it at all he's just not accurate enough and it isn't for a lack of trying.

I've seen enough of him to know that he's every bit as athletic as Vince Young and probably more so in some ways and I would give Vince higher passing marks but not high enough that I'd want Vince as my QB.

I don't know exactly what he'd be best at, I think RB actually some say WR but I really think he reminds me of Marcus Allen more than anyone else, he's very shifty without any loss of speed and he's an extremely smart runner.
