Reach in the sense that there are superior prospects available.

Not a reach in the sense that if he becomes a successful QB, he's going to have more an impact on the W/L column than anyone else we can take.

Case in point: Imagine if we'd taken Russel Wilson #16 last year. That would have been a huge reach, but we'd all be thrilled right now about it.

Can you find me a single team in the past 10 (or even 15 years) that has drafted a QB with a high second round pick, and then one year later, added a first rounder? I can't think of any, but I could be proven wrong.

Carolina

Jimmy Clausen 2nd Round 48th overall in 2010

Cam Newton 1st Round 1st overall 2011

Dopes on NFL Network have Warmack in HOF. Including current and former NFL lineman. :skeptical:

Not about to go there.

But I still think Warmack is the pick at #7 for this team, and that he will be the right pick.

JMHO.

I like Chance Warmack, and at least 5 other guys instead of Geno Smith at #7.

I don't care about winning draft day, I care about winning Sundays, and we need an offensive line to do that.

This is the bottom line and you don't win with a poor Oline. Someone else said if its a choice between solidifying a Oline position for 10 years and Smith you take the Oline.

If what LaCava reported (on another thread) is true, everything becomes clearer.

He inferred that Keim planned to use 2 of his top 3 draft picks on the OL. The Cardinals off-season activity has addressed every other position of need (save DE/OLB) and appears to be setting us up to aggressively go after offensive linemen in the draft.

Whether the "other" pick out of our top 3 was used on a QB or on a pass rusher figures to depend on BPA ratings. (If need does enter into the decision, there'd seem to be more of a "win now" influence favoring an OLB/DE than with a QBOF).

1 - Warmack
2 - Okafor
3 - Schweinke

Do it.

Bunk! QB most important position on the field. about 21-1 more important than G... Aaron Rodgers and the packers are a prime example that you can atill win even a SB with a crappy OL. QB makes everyone and everything better!!

Floyd (a #2 WR) was a reach. In comparison to him, Geno is not a reach if for no other reason than the position he plays. No pick we make could come close to the reach we made last year. Someone should have been fired the following Monday after that draft.

You are wrong, and it is not even worth explanation if you think a team with Fitzgerald would make any WR drafted more than a #2 WR. Your thinking need more than a player being a bust or below his value when selected and in my opinion do not understand what the word reach means in this context :D

Show me Aaron Rogers in this draft, and I will agree with you.

I don't question the logic, just the analysis that Geno Smith is a good QB for the NFL. Obviously I do not think so, not by a long shot.

So, to me, it is choosing between a QB that is 35% chance of even seeing the field, or a guard with the potential to dominate.

Easy choice for me, from my perspective.

Not to mention the last Superbowl featured the two best offensive lines in football playing each other, while the Packers sat at home and watched, along with Brady, Manning, and Matt Ryan. Heck, Drew Brees at that point was heavy into his golf game.

West Virginia QB Geno Smith completed 60 of 64 attempts at the school's pro day on Thursday, including two drops by WR Stedman Bailey.

"Most impressive in the workout was his downfield touch and accuracy, zip on the move and balance throughout his compact release," Jeff Reynolds of CBS Sports writes. Bills general manager Buddy Nix was present as were high-ranking reps for the Chiefs, Jaguars, Raiders, Browns and Cardinals.

Remember Rugby, there was no 'Aaron Rodgers' in the draft the year Aaron Rodgers was drafted. Smith was seen as no great shakes, and Rodgers slid like crazy because no one thought he had star potential.

Fair enough.

My guy is still Warmack.

Warmack or Cooper, whomever our staff feels fits our system best is my perference as well. There are probably players who play positions of higher priority ala Jarvis Jones, Geno Smith, Dion Jordan, but I am just tired of watching our line be terrible and think these guys improve it the most and the fastest.
