Remember the 1970's classic about a sport which combined roller derby with a ball scoring that produced an extensive amount of violence. I hope I'm wrong, but I think there is a real possibility the Lakers may resort to rollerball tactic to make up for their inferieor skills.

The TNT announcers were talking about how Barbosa should be put on his but. You'd think this would be dismissed as provoking unsportsman like play, but the other commentators just nodded in agreement.

I fear it could get really ugly. I hope I'm wrong, but I think it obvious that the Lakers will try to be "more physical" and it could easily get out of hand.

It was Barkley that made the suggestion to "knock Barbosa out," of course.

it'll get physical for sure. Beware of Brown Odam and Walton. Kobe might even get in to the act taking his previous record in account.

I'm definitely expecting some classic Phil Jackson, Rick Fox, Kwame Borwn-esque thuggery tomorrow night. We already saw the beginnings of it with the Lamar foul on Nash and if anyone was watching closely, you could see Maurice angling to pick a fight with someone on the court last night.

one of our guys is going down hard tomorrow and EARLY. I just hope whoever that is avoids injury. I ALSO think if the Lakers are dumb enough to employ this strategy, they'll be digging their own grave with a thousand shovels. The last thing you want to do is piss off a lion that will probably be a little relaxed tomorrow night. You fire this team and they'll hand out the most emabrassing loss the Staples Center has ever seen.

I dont see it happening.

the only reason I couldn't see it happening is because Phil knows his team has absolutely ZERO chance to win this series. Otherwise, it would be par for the course for his last few teams. He does everything he can to win, and I don't begrudge him for it - the phsyical roller-derby inimidate your opponent thing almost worked last year.

I totally agree, I don't think the Lakers would go that route when it is clear they aren't good enough to win it. If it were close... maybe.

I expect this from Manu and the Spurs though.

i dont know. its one thing to play more physical...but its another to take Barkley's suggestions to the floor. i seriously doubt we'll be seeing a series much like the one we saw last year. that lakers team was on an end of season high, and the **** of the wok.

this season is different though. it would be one thing if the suns werent considered contenders for the championship....like if we were the #3 seed in a weak conference.

but this team is considered a favorite to win. and the Lakers risking serious injury on our team just to win a game or two is lower than low. who cares if they got embarrassed. the way those lakers looked during the end of the game last night was just pathetic. they had already conceded.....Kobe looked like "damn, no way in hell", Odem after the game was doubting his team's commitment and comradery (sp).

The Lakers are pretty frustrated. Lamar's foul last night was it being manifest. Layups and dunks and lack of defense will do that to a team. If there's another game like this one, expect the Lakers to drop some hard fouls...they aren't going to go away easy and if they can't win they'll make the loss hurt both teams. I do see that happening, not under a directive, but as a frustrated response.

Kobe only follows directions, sir.

I hope they try that with Amare and Kurt on the floor. I think it'll help prove we aren't as soft a team as people think. I just hope non of our guys gets suspended or injured.

I don't want to see this turn into thug ball. I hope the Lakers have more class then that. If that happens, I will lose alot of respect for the Lakers and Coach Jackson.

Not that I had an abundance before.....I am just saying. :D

It was a blowout last night, but we pulled our starters early and it was our deep bench that maintained the point differential. The Lakers have nothing at all to be ticked about except themselves.

Good grief. Burke got extended playing time and passed up 3 pt shots. Piatkowski DROVE to the hole. Talk about holding back.

Barkley's comments are irresponsible. Whoever does such a thing is risking a long suspension and the loss of alot of money---and an early first round exit anyway.

Send Barkley's comments to the league office and the chief of referrees and then play the game.

I think Odom or Brown will do a hard foul and maybe more than once, especially if the suns start out hot and get them down early.

I hope the Lakers do give the Suns a hard foul if the Suns start running layup drills like they did last night. Nothing malicious, though, just a good hard foul that hopefully makes the Suns think twice about going up for a layup.

This goes for the Suns too, if the Lakers start getting easy layups or dunks (although this is very unlikely to happen), I'd expect them to put a good hard foul on the Lakers as well.

It's too bad that officiating has gotten to a point where you can't commit a clean hard foul without getting called for a technical or flagrant foul.

I would be the last person to defend Charles if he may the remark about taking someone to the floor. However, he did make one valid comment. He said the Lakers only chance in the series is to try and run with the Suns because the presence of Amare does not allow the Lakers to pound the ball inside like last year. I don't think Charles believed this would be a winning strategy but he felt this would allow Kobe to do his thing and help keep the Lakers in the game.

If the Lakers want to ignite the Suns team even more, this is all it would take. This is not a soft Suns team. I just do not want to see a Suns player ejected if the Lakers try this tactic. I hope the referees are up to the job and seeing through the scam of thug ball if the Lakers try it.

Barkley did say the Lakers needed to knock Barbosa on his butt, but he overlooked one thing - they can't get in front of him to smack him down. Now, if he'd suggested a tackle as he ran by, that would be in the realm of possibility...

I do not see why the Suns consistently getting layups warrants hard fouls. If you don't like it then play some damn defense.

Barbosa and Barkley should run sprints up and down the floor several times and see if Barkley can even open his mouth to speak. Also Barbosa would be done before Charles even starts.

Seriously, CB's comment about knocking LB (or any Sun) to the floor sickens me.

If he was an owner or a player, he'd be fined by the NBA.

There's nothing wrong with a good hard foul every once in a while if it's not meant to take someone out like that NCAA game when the Duke player got hit or that Temple coach was going to send his thugs in or w/e he said. If it's not like that then there's nothing wrong with some physical basketball, just like it used to be decades ago.
