This was a battle cry around here after "Suck for Luck" faded away.... Get Ready for Teddy..

well Cardinals fans..are you ready for Teddy??

perhaps the best of both worlds.... a QBOF, that happens to have valuable NFL experience...

did you realize Teddy Bridgewater just turned 25 two months ago? I thought he was more in the 27-28 range,.. but no,... just 25.. 4 years younger than Kirk Cousins

anyone remember how upset so many folks here were when Keim passed on Teddy to draft Deone Buchannon? Then they compounded the error by taking this safety they drafted ahead of bridgewater and made him a 210 pound middle linebacker...

maybe its time to clean up old mistakes.

Adrian Peterson had this to say about Teddy in 2016..

"When I look in his eyes, I see greatness," Peterson said. "I see a young man who’s -- even now, he’s matured more, and he wants to be great. He has that leadership, he has that leader inside him and it’s coming out even more. He just has a good spirit. He has a good soul, a good spirit. And when you combine that with talent, and the mindset that he has, greatness will come out."

so far Teddy has a middling 86.3 passer rating.... Palmer's career rating is 87.9...warners is 93.7... so right now Teddy doesnt stack up to past cardinal QB's... Matt Staffords career rating is 88.3

But Teddy was in a poor situation when he was starting in Minne... their offensive line was even worse than the one we put on the field last week. The biggest issue with Teddy prior to his injury was INT's,.. which the oline woes partially explain,.. he still was completing 64% of his passes.

All three of the Vikes QB's are hitting free agency this off season. If Keenum takes them deep in the playoffs how can they even consider letting him go and signing Bridgewater instead?

Also,... Teddy's injury will make him more affordable. It is kinda sad but thats the business side of things in the NFL. All things considered he will likely come cheaper than Case Keenum.

So how about this...
Hire Shurmer as HC
Hire DeFillipo as OC
Sign Teddy Bridgewater as QB

Draft either Price from Ohio State or Nelson from ND to shore up the middle of our line in the first round...add a big WR in the second.... with Price and Nelson both you hear names like Pouncy and DeCastro as comparisons. These guys are day 1 starters for whoever drafts them.

Teddy Bridgewater affords us an opportunity to get the best of both worlds. An experienced NFL QB who has proven he can compete in the league while also being young enough to man the position for 10+ years. Unlike guys like Smith or Cousins he will not command a $25mil+ per year salary... we could probably get Teddy for something like 5 years $60mil with moderate guarantees and some team friendly outs in case the knee never really gets right. Even five years $75mil would be a bargain so long as the language is right.
Its a risk. The guy threw one pass in 2017 and it was a pick. But its a knee and Bridgewater was always a cerebral pocket passer anyway.

Drew Brees had his throwing shoulder reconstructed. It was a HUGE risk, but the Saints took that risk.

So what do you say Cards fans??

Are we Ready for Teddy??

I Don’t think so. Pretty sure minn wants to give him a shot. Keenam has been ok, but he is average at best.

I like it.Sign Bridgewater.Sign a solid backup and draft a QB to develop.
Bridgewater
Gabbert or Stanton for backup.
Draft best available QB to develop.

Good pitch, oaken. Nice work, pal.
it just makes sense to me. If all the best rookies will be gone when we pick then oline makes the most sense.
The purpose for drafting a rookie is to get the guy who will fill the position for 10+ years... the downside is you never know how they will adapt to the nfl game. Teddy checks these boxes with the only risk being the unknown of his knee recovery.

Folks keep talking about Shurmur and Keenum as a pair,.. but if they go to the super bowl with Keenum, how do they justify letting him walk afterwards?? If Bridgewater slips up or cannot play at a high level next year everyone in their front office will be crucified for letting a super bowl QB walk and keeping Teddy instead. If they actually win the SB,...

not to mention, Teddy can now be considered a vet...a vet with a 64% completions percentage.... a guy like that can help an aging WR decide to stick around another year.

You don't really get to just hire Defillipo as OC.. Shurmer would choose who he wants to bring in. I do like the idea of getting Teddy though.

No way Minny let's loose Teddy for one legged Bradford and a dink here dunk there Keenum.

Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
there were probably people in St Louis who said the same thing in regards to warner and trent green... green was a pretty solid starter before he got hurt

Do we even know if Teddy can be effective anymore?

He wasn’t exactly lighting up the field before catastrophic injuries.
no. We dont. There is risk involved and that should be reflected in the contract.

But the risk shouldnt stop us, somebody is going to try him... just like somebody tried Brees...

the only drawback in how he was playing prior to his injury was the number of picks of which many can be attributed to a piss poor oline and matching receivers

unless of course we are certain we are going to get our guy in the draft,... then I would say go with the rookie... but most seem to think all the good ones will be gone before we pick and nobody will want to trade us a higher pick

Brees hadn’t missed two seasons... or even a game when NO took their risk.

no... he just came in with a surgically reconstructed untested throwing shoulder.
some risks pay off..some dont.

Did he have that done in the offseason when he was a FA?

Not trying to be a “jack wagon”... just don’t remember.

he had surgery on January 6th and New Orleans signed him in March of the same year... Miami was interested but backed out because their team doctors said they didnt think Brees shoulder was going to heal.
was a leap of faith for the saints

Teddy has at least taken a snap, lol.... but Brees never missed a game and threw for almost 4500 yards in his first year with the saints

I guess it depends on if you trust Bridgewaters talent prior to the injury...two seasons off is a long time but he is only 25, and he never was a "wheels" kinda QB

I think as long as the knee holds up he can be a productive QB

I like Bridgewater. His stats were pretty good and trending in the right direction for being a young starter . His knee is the obvious question but, no matter what QB the Cards acquire, there are going to be some question marks.

To follow AP's advice, if you need an eye transplant, and are looking for greatness try Teddy. If you need a QB, look elsewhere.

I would be fine with Teddy on a 1 year prove it deal or very cap friendly contract as a potential bridge to QBOF. If it turns out to be him...great. I would still bring in another veteran to compete and draft a rookie.

He’s Captain Checkdown. Here in MN everyone loves Teddy the person, not Teddy the qb. This year he threw 2 passes and wasn’t comfortable in the pocket for either one. He needs game reps to get himself right in the head after a gruesome injury. I’d rather take a “risk” on the draft before signing Teddy.

so would I... I made the thread because so many people seam to think none of the top QB's will be available for us in the draft and Teddy is as close as you can get to a rookie with being so young still.
when you remove the draft as an option, and consider other team needs..we dont have much cash to throw at a QB right now... Teddy should come cheap because of the gamble... and due to his style of play he could be taught to be "Alex Smith 2.0"... which would work for us with our defense and DJ...shoring up the line of course
