Do we even know if Teddy can be effective anymore?

He wasn’t exactly lighting up the field before catastrophic injuries.

This is the question on the table as far as I am concerned.

I am a huge Teddy Bridgewater fan, and that is no secret, but I do not think there is anyway you can look at Bridgewater and NOT be concerned about his injury history.

If healthy, I think Bridgewater has all the skills to be a top NFL QB. I would LOVE to have him on this roster.

Well, there's another Minny QB, who is now back at practice and will be a Free Agent.

Maybe, Shurmur would prefer to work with - SAM BRADFORD

2016 season
Bradford started 15 games in 2016, completing 395 of 552 passes for 3,877 yards and 20 touchdowns with 5 interceptions. His 71.6 completion percentage set a single-season NFL record, passing Drew Brees's 2011 mark of 71.2. Brees later finished the 2017 season with a 72.0 completion percentage, retaking the record. Bradford's 395 completions set a franchise record for completions in a season.

2017 season
In Week 1, on Monday Night Football, Bradford completed 27-of-32 pass attempts for 346 yards and three touchdowns in a 29–19 win over the New Orleans Saints, earning him his first NFC Offensive Player of the Week award. He was inactive for the Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a knee injury. After missing three more games, on October 10, it was revealed that Bradford was diagnosed with wear and tear on his knee after two previous ACL surgeries. On November 7, Bradford underwent a knee scope, putting his season in jeopardy. He was placed on injured reserve the next day, ending his season. (He returned to practice last week. No problems, according to reports.)

His injury scares me. He may be given clearance but will he be the same? Granted a catastrophic injury can come out of no where (Shazier). I would rather go after Tyrod Taylor just for my piece of mind and draft and develop Mayfield.

Totally agree, because of the injury I would pass on Bridgewater.

Put the pipe down

Look at tape of Lamar Jackson and get back to me about your QB with the wrecked knee and who looked scared playing live football.

I've always liked Teddy, tough though because you have to see how he does coming back from an injury
As far as Sam Bradford, no he can never stay healthy for a season

Bridgewater is(or was) great at reading the blitz, but I’m still not sold on him being a good QB.

Here’s a little of my take on him from 2014,

“Teddy Bridgewater – Like Manziel, he is on the small side. Unlike Manziel, he does not take many foolish risks. He could get hurt, but his mobility is better harnessed. He reminds me of Jeff Garcia, but shows better judgment. He can run, but doesn’t have happy feet. Bridgewater is a student of the game who lets the field come to him. He rarely forces throws. He is the best of this group at reading defenses and could play immediately if necessary. He may be the smartest of this bunch and you can’t teach smart. He is very coachable, which is important since he has a lower than ideal release point.”

There are 2 main issues with him. First I’m not sure with this O-line & these receivers that there’s any chance he’d sign with the Cards. I wouldn’t. Second is he fully recovered? He’s been clearedmedically, but is he mentally cleared. He’d certainly at least be worth the risk as a bridge, but I’m not sure he could be the long term solution. I really liked him coming out and I think he was com8ng along fine. My initial concern was the same I have with Jackson; body type. This type of slim body style has not historically proved durable. If they could sign him, a good guard and a couple of decent receivers, then draft a first round OT; this might work.

This was a battle cry around here after "Suck for Luck" faded away.... Get Ready for Teddy..

well Cardinals fans..are you ready for Teddy??

perhaps the best of both worlds.... a QBOF, that happens to have valuable NFL experience...

did you realize Teddy Bridgewater just turned 25 two months ago? I thought he was more in the 27-28 range,.. but no,... just 25.. 4 years younger than Kirk Cousins

anyone remember how upset so many folks here were when Keim passed on Teddy to draft Deone Buchannon? Then they compounded the error by taking this safety they drafted ahead of bridgewater and made him a 210 pound middle linebacker...

maybe its time to clean up old mistakes.

Adrian Peterson had this to say about Teddy in 2016..

"When I look in his eyes, I see greatness," Peterson said. "I see a young man who’s -- even now, he’s matured more, and he wants to be great. He has that leadership, he has that leader inside him and it’s coming out even more. He just has a good spirit. He has a good soul, a good spirit. And when you combine that with talent, and the mindset that he has, greatness will come out."

so far Teddy has a middling 86.3 passer rating.... Palmer's career rating is 87.9...warners is 93.7... so right now Teddy doesnt stack up to past cardinal QB's... Matt Staffords career rating is 88.3

But Teddy was in a poor situation when he was starting in Minne... their offensive line was even worse than the one we put on the field last week. The biggest issue with Teddy prior to his injury was INT's,.. which the oline woes partially explain,.. he still was completing 64% of his passes.

All three of the Vikes QB's are hitting free agency this off season. If Keenum takes them deep in the playoffs how can they even consider letting him go and signing Bridgewater instead?

Also,... Teddy's injury will make him more affordable. It is kinda sad but thats the business side of things in the NFL. All things considered he will likely come cheaper than Case Keenum.

So how about this...
Hire Shurmer as HC
Hire DeFillipo as OC
Sign Teddy Bridgewater as QB

Draft either Price from Ohio State or Nelson from ND to shore up the middle of our line in the first round...add a big WR in the second.... with Price and Nelson both you hear names like Pouncy and DeCastro as comparisons. These guys are day 1 starters for whoever drafts them.

Teddy Bridgewater affords us an opportunity to get the best of both worlds. An experienced NFL QB who has proven he can compete in the league while also being young enough to man the position for 10+ years. Unlike guys like Smith or Cousins he will not command a $25mil+ per year salary... we could probably get Teddy for something like 5 years $60mil with moderate guarantees and some team friendly outs in case the knee never really gets right. Even five years $75mil would be a bargain so long as the language is right.
Its a risk. The guy threw one pass in 2017 and it was a pick. But its a knee and Bridgewater was always a cerebral pocket passer anyway.

Drew Brees had his throwing shoulder reconstructed. It was a HUGE risk, but the Saints took that risk.

So what do you say Cards fans??

Are we Ready for Teddy??
I like it.

He ain't leavin Minney. Not yet at least.
Well he's a free agent after the season, so....

With all three of their QBs being free agents, i suspect the Vikings will tag/sign the one they like best to a long-term deal. If the Cardinals hire Shurmur, he'll know which of the others he likes and how healthy they are, and could convince that guy to sign with the Cardinals.

Heck, if Keim is smart, he'll pump Shurmur for info in their interview about his QBs! I'm sure Shurmur already has an idea which guy he'd like to bring with him to wherever he's hired.

Sam Bradford? Case Keenum was a stop gap in case Bradford got hurt until Teddy was cleared off PUP. Sam Bradford never hurt his knee this year. It swelled up after their first game of the season, where Bradford had arguably his best game of his career. He tried to come back 2 weeks later only to play a drive until he needed to have his knee scopes and cleaned. Keenum has played very well in his absence, but i think if Shurmur gets a job as a HC somewhere Sam goes with.

He’s Captain Checkdown. Here in MN everyone loves Teddy the person, not Teddy the qb. This year he threw 2 passes and wasn’t comfortable in the pocket for either one. He needs game reps to get himself right in the head after a gruesome injury. I’d rather take a “risk” on the draft before signing Teddy.
LOL he can make those tough throws through needles when need be.

And these aint college highlights mind you

Im still mad we passed on Teddy "hands are too small" Bridgewater AND Derek "all he did was screens in college" Carr for Buchanon.

yeah....dont want no Sam Bradford in these parts.

How are folks up there going to feel about letting Keenum go if he takes them to the Super Bowl? Fans in the area still willing to let him walk or would they be hot to keep him around?

Did you really post “highlights” of a season where the qb threw for 3300 yards 14 tds and 9 ints and saying he can make all the tough throws? The first game highlight he played a bad 49ers team and managed to score 3 points against. I stopped watching after that lol

It’s funny actually. People wanted Teddy as qb when he was off PUP instead of Case. Now that Case keeps winning they want to keep him. If he loses in the first round, he’ll be booed out of the state lol.

yeah... that's what I was thinking...if they go far with Keenum the ownership would have trouble if they dont sign him,...which in turn makes Teddy available.

But like you said... if Keenum suxx in the playoffs,...he walks and the re sign Teddy most likely

The Vikings traded a 1st last year and a 4th this year to get Sam Bradford. I think he is there best option for resigning if Case fails. With Teddy, the Vikings rejected the 5th year option because they couldn’t trust him coming back from a terrible injury. Teddy and Zimmer(HC) have a great bond, so I could see him being back as a backup with either Bradford or Keenum as the starter.

I was quoting BillCarnage, who i think was referring to Bridgewater, since most of the prior 10 posts or so were discussing Bridgewater. Regardless, all three of the Vikings QBs are free agents so i like the idea of asking Shurmur which QB he'd like to bring with him and his assessment of the guy's health status and durability. Regardless of whether the Cardinals hire Shurmur, it would be good intel presumably honestly given in the context of trying to land the Cardinals HC job.

Sorry, I should have bolded the last paragraph in your post. I meant it as I believe Shurmur’s “guy” is Sam Bradford.

Gotcha... i'd be OK with Bradford if Shurmur endorses him and the Cards take a strong backup / potential QBOF in the early rounds.

Meh, still better then anyone coming out right now and we actually have a chance at him unlike Rosen/Darnold/Mayfield who are the only qb's who are worth a crap this year.

Dave, I have heretofore considered you to be sensible and level headed.... That is, until your Bradford endorsement...
