A starting pitching staff where #2-5 don't routinely give up close to a run per inning (4 in 5 innings) seems to be a much higher priority than competing for the last Wild Card spot.

A healthy Pollock and Peralta would be wonderful, but a #2-5 who are not at the AAA+ level is essential. The effects are far reaching. They are killing our bullpen four out of every five games.

You don't think a healthy Pollack and Peralta are worth 5 wins? I know the pitching has been bad but 5 more wins puts them in the mix for the last wild card.

I don't think a healthy Pollock and Peralta are worth 5 wins. For half a years production, Pollock was expected to add around 2 wins and Peralta maybe a win, although in 160 or so PAs he's not even close to that.

This assumes they replace Drury and Thomas in the OF, but that's not who they'd replace. At least not Thomas. It would be Bourn and Weeks and that positive production would cancel out some of the gain Pollock and Peralta would expect to add.

They're maybe worth 2 wins over the current OF we have for half a season , almost all of it coming from Pollock.
