We now have two big space-eaters. Works in a 4-3 four man rotation and both can play NT in a 3-4.

Both are fat and both are known for having some stamina issues/taking plays off. By having two, you eliminate that problem. Pendy has already explained that they will both rotate. Its unfair and unrealistic to ask men of their size to go all out every play.

dont get me wrong - i dont mind the Branch pick but what does this mean for the big fella?

It means Gabe is our backup NT, and will come in to spell Branch.

Both Watson and Branch are very very very big boys. The fresher we can keep them the more effective they will be.

PLUS I they were team mates before in Michigan so I doubt they will mind playing as a unit.

If Branch plays to his potential we might have one of the better NT depth in the NFL.

I think that they both come in to compete for that NT spot in the 3-4 defense. If Branch can come in and play end at the 3-4, and put Dockett on the other side, you have in our front 7:

DE: Branch
NT: Watson
DE: Dockett
OLB: Berry
ILB: Davis
ILB: Hayes
OLB: Dansby

or.

DE: Branch
NT: Watson
DE: Dockett
OLB: Berry
ILB: Hayes
ILB: Dansby
OLB: Okeafor

Here my comment in dream land again.

They could be a younger version of the Goose and Washington during the Ravens super-bowl year. They already played together during college. Having Branch and Watson on the defensive line can only help the cardinals defensive line. They will definetly help the cardinals againist the run. The addition of Branch makes this a scary defensive line.

Watson is a young healthy huge player. Nobody giving up on him that I know, there will be plenty of snaps for him.

Agreed. Both Watson and Branch have the ability to be two gappers. Dockett will be single covered every game with both of them on the line.

Mixing in Berry/Okeafor blitzing has me very excited.

those are MUCH bigger front 7s than we've ever had before. but do we generate ANY pass rush with our downlinemen?

Where does Kendrick Clancy figure in to this equation?

I forsee him starting at one DT position, with Branch on the other side.

In the 3-4 the pass rush comes from the linebackers. As a 4-3 D our pass rush is going to remain Dockett, Berry, Okeafor and Wilson.

Side note: the 3 Superbowl winning Patriots seem to be able to plug anyone in to their defense and continue winning. The main constant is their DL of Ty Warren, Richard Seymour and Vince Wilfork (and previously Ted Washington at NT.) Those guys had a grand total of 12.5 sacks between them but allow the linebackers to run free.

When Clancy played with the steelers he played some DE. I am sure he would play some DE as well in the 3-4 scheme with AZ.

That works for me. I know he'll be on the roster due to the familiarity of the 3-4 and of the new regime.

The Valley so low.
I still like my final idea in an earlier post about this: we can now use Sumo Wrestling as half-time entertainment every Sunday, and save on all those boring musical acts.

Jacksonville has the twin towers (Henderson and Stroud). Lets make up a nickname for Watson and Branch. How about " The Michigan Meatheads"

:hijack:

I like the "Brick Wall".

All the runningbacks are going to be saying about Branch and Watson "It is like running into a BRICK WALL"

The options Branch adds to this D is amazing. I am thrilled...

IMO the 3-4 looks like this.

DE-Branch, NT-Watson, DE-Dockett
OLB-Chike, MLB-Hayes, MLB-Davis, OLB-Dansby

I like that.

I dont think Berry can handle the 3-4 OLB, hope I am wrong.
