maybe. But the era is open for some epic films. Im a fan of historical fiction so im a bit biased... but overall film/production quality is whats important...and its not Marvel or DC..... though the worst thing they could do is try and make a gladiator into a super hero

I agree Gladiator needed no sequel. IMO thats just hollywood riding the title of a known property even though they carried over some characters.
But I wont hate on them for making quality films on content that I like just because they are lazy in originality

This is going to make a bundle of money, this and Wicked. Between the two, the theater I saw this in had probably 20 sold out shows.
Laughably bad stuff for me. Tried soooo hard to evoke the first one by slurping all over Crowe's you-know-what. No set-up for the cartoonish emperors, who were very cardboard cutout unlike Commodus, a beyond weak "reason" why our MC was "outcast," hamfisted fight scenes by and large, a waste of great acting talent, and a beige MC.
Plus, that was a sad half callback to Caligula.
Way to kill off the first black Roman emperor before he becomes the emperor. That's a great message to send. The butchery of Roman history is expected and can be ignored, but that is idiotic.
In what part of the ancient world are ships literally sailing up to the walls of a heavily fortified walled city and, in minutes, breaching and taking the city? I mean, gimme a break here. Reeks of "It looks cool, so whatevs."
Also, what slave is allowed to keep an arrow segment and a freaking ring when they're forcibly taken into slavery after a battle? Absolute idiocy.
If you don't mind a dumb movie beyond cheese that's sword and sandal action, this one's for you. If you're looking for something even remotely like Gladiator, bypass this train wreck.
