Veldheer was 27 when he was acquired. He's only 30 today. You sign a 30+ LT, and that gets you an A. You fail to get one to replace him at 5 years, that is an F.
You say you can't account for injuries, but when you consistently draft smaller players in a physical NFL football game, they get injured. That is on you. John Brown...small.
Brown's issues are unrelated to his size - and as far as i've heard, his sickle-cell condition was not known, and certainly had never before affected him when he was drafted.
JJ Nelson...small.
VERY small. But, he's surprisingly not one of the oft-injured guys (missed 1 game in the last 2 seasons). And he was a 5th round pick - i think he's over-performed the average for the 5th round.
Andre Ellington...small.
For a 3rd-down back, not really. As a 6th round pick, he's over-performed in the 3rd down role. The only crazy part was ever expecting him to be an every-down back.
Kerwynn Williams...small.
Has he ever been injured?
Deone Bucannon...small for a LB.
Not small for a safety... and has only missed 6 games in 4 years. Size would definitely be a concern if he's expected to be a traditional MLB, however.
Tyrann Mathieu...small for a S.
True... and his shoulder injury could be size-related... but his two ACL tears were not.
DJ Humphries...injury pattern in college and injury pattern in NFL.
True... and is it possible he has weak ligaments?!? His concussion last season was certainly not size-related, nor did he have a history of concussions.
Robert Nkemdiche....injury history in college and injury pattern in NFL.
This guy just seems soft.
You have a roster of older players, well, older players get nicked up more.
Agreed - it is no surprise that the oldest team in the league has been so injured this season. Though, the key injuries (Johnson, Humphries, Palmer) certainly weren't age-related. Johnson and Humphries are young, and any QB would've been hurt sooner or later given the hits Palmer was taking all season.
I guess i'm just not buying into the premise that "drafting smaller players" is responsible for the number of injuries either.
