  • I wanna know who voted Minnesota to be in the NBA Finals this year other than Kevin McHale?
  • I agree that Raja Bell will be the most underrated FA signing.
  • Good to see D'Antoni getting recognition as a good coach (except when it comes to making adjustments and last 2 mins of a game)
  • Ditto with Iavaroni

I disagree....my choice is Hughes closely followed by Swift...for some reason i really like that move....

Joe will get better numbers but he wont be as efficient (and subsequently as good) in Atlanta

Uh, unless Canada has been annexed, Steve Nash is an international player. Can't believe he didn't rate.

He is actually South African, just raised in Canada.

Anyways, an international player is usually someone that comes from overseas - and did not play HS or college ball in the US.

Steve played college ball here, making him a domestic player.

For real, he was born in SA and is a Canadian citizen.

In past surveys he was listed, so perhaps they have chosen to make the distinction of no HS/college ball in he US.

Not to quibble too much, but he's a Canadian national, regardless of his place of origin (which I was aware of). Thus, by any sensible definition of the term he's "international." That said, grahamcracker, I get the informal definition being used here and appreciate the explanation of "international" as a term of art. And yet, it rankles, for a lot of reasons, some hard to name coherently.....

I'd be interested to know which GMs were still under the impression that Iavaroni was still an active player?

I laughed when I saw that. Oh well, we all make tipos or is that ytpos.

The one that surprised me was in the same category, Kurt Thomas as a future coach. Who knew.

BTW...i dont know if anybody noticed but Kobe gets a lot more love from the GM's (and myself) than most of the NBA watching public....

I maintain that LA is our biggest threat for the division....

I noticed that as well. I also think I agree with your prediction on the Lakers, but I think they will compete for one of the final playoff spots with the Phoenix Suns. I'm encouraged by last night's preseason game, but I still feel that a relatively healthy Golden State team is the best in the division right now.

sorry i dont hold to that. in order for the lakers to be able to really make a run at the division title they are going to have to be able to count on good production. if he produce then the lakers are not going to be a big threat to anyone. the team that i believe that will giving us a run for the division is going to be golden state if they can keep baron healthly. just to let you know kwame brown in 7 preseason games is averaging .510 from the field, 10 points and 6 rebounds and has been to the line 41 time and only hit 20 of them for a outstanding free throw % of .488 all of this in 24 minutes.

Lol...well thats why its called going out on a limb scotsman...if it was the popular thought...(like Golden State or Sac being our main competitors as 90% of people seem to think)...well it really wouldn't be worth saying...

I expect most people to disagree...i just think three things about these Lakers that others don't seem to think are as important...

1) Kobe Bryant is the best perimeter player in the NBA and with TONS of motivation, he will be the first player since AI to average 30+ points a game with his typical 6 and 6. He will be more efficient though and Phil will make sure he is getting the bulk of the shots...

2)I think Phil Jackson is more than just a soother of egos. I think he has a system and i think it works. Plus he is highly motivated as well and I like his in game adjustments and his strategy in the playoffs....I look for him to cement his status as an all time great coach this season coaxing 50 plus wins out of LA. I also have money thta says at the end of the year or after the next three seasons if the can get to the Finals, all the national pundits will be saying.."well he had the best player in the league in Kobe Bryant, so its no wonder he won it all again"...those same pundits have short memories....

3)I think Lamar Odom will be 20 an 10 on this team and be the best ball handling wing Phil has had since Scottie. Thats not oging too far out on a limb, but some of the quotes i have heard from PJAx makes me think he has big plans w/ LO and he knows how to better utilize them

I also think Kwame and Mihm are btter bigs than people think. Put it this way, i wish the Suns had either of them for depth purposes...

i think Warriors have the players but Baron's chances of getting injured are as likely as Grant getting injured for us, which is very high. Plus this is unchartered territory for this franchise. Basketball more than any other sport is about going through the wars....

I also dont like the additons of SAR and Bonzi as much as some others do....mentally weak IMO although Bonzi is another highly motivated player....

we will see how it all plays out

Suns and the rest of the west

Suns look really good, raja bell is sick and Thomas gives us the needed big man and rebounding until Amari is back.

As far as the rest of the west, SA is clearly the team to beat but I think they are vulnerable with a healthy Amari. I really like Seattle this year, many are underestimating Rashard Lewis he is a 6 foot 10 monster will 2 guard skills but 4 power forward post play. He can rebound and score at will. Ray Allen is clearly a superstar and Nick C and Luke R are very fine young role players. Lets not forget that Petro looks like a solid prospect. Evans, Fortson, Vitaly give this team a solid frontline.

I like the timberwolves because Garnett is ready to lead.

P.S. I think the seahawks win the superbowl and Notre Dame is the best college football program. Lastly I hate to admit it but UW has become "the" team to beat in the pac-10. Look at the 2006 class coming in - Hawkes is all world.

I haven't watched any game but why is Raja Bell so important to Suns now? I know Bell is a solid defender and he can make open shots if he is open. He did play with Nash before in Dallas. Can somebody enlighten me?

He's important because he essentially replaces Joe Johnson--pretty big shoes to fill.
