Say what you want...I would still prefer to take a tackle in the first round. The only other option would be if we moved Wells to tackle, but I have seen enough to know that we need more talent at offensive tackle. We have invested a lot into our offense and we have to protect that investment.
Gandy has been playing at a near-pro bowl level and I could not be happier with how Levi has looked thusfar. Dont forget that Ross will likely be back. I also think that the weakest link on our starting line has been Wells. We have too many holes on our team right now to draft for depth in the first round.

Granted, if a top lineman were to fall to us I wouldn't be upset with the pick, but personally I would prefer to go secondary or LB with our first selection.

Absolutely. If we had a shut down corner (if) we would have a much better secondary. True for every team in the NFL, I know, but us more than many.

Yeah, we have been lucky this year that our pass rush has hidden much of our weakness in the secondary. Right now I think we are 9th in the NFL in sacks. If we had even an average secondary we would be in the top 5.

Any team that will let a CB go speaks volumes to me. I would rather draft and develop our own. With a stronger pass rush and linebacking corp this season, we don't have as much pressure placed on the corners as other years. If we can cut down on stupid penalties we should be okay.

And we could sure use a young pass rusher since Berry isn't getting any younger and there's no way of knowing what Chike will be like when he comes back next year.

I think we're in the normal spot where we need to take the best player available.

I am hoping that we won't be drafting high enough for Cason because he looks as good as McCalister was when he was at AZ.

I think no matter what there are still positions that we could use young talent:

OL (What if Sam Baker drops to the 20s?)
LB (OLB/DE Tweener type i.e. Merriman)
S
CB
HB (if the perfect half back falls in our laps again i.e.McFadden)
FS

So no matter where we draft there should be a BPA available who can help.

You said we wouldn't be drafting high enough for Cason and then say we might have McFadden drop in our lap? :D

well I'm hoping that we won't be drafting high enough for Cason or any player that I think will be top ten. But the reality is this: we are one hit away from having either Tim Rattay or Timm Hasselback as the starting QB. While I don't think it is impossible for either of those two to guide us to a winning record after the bye, I would not be counting on it either. I was trying to make the point that we should take BPA in this draft and we are in a position that we probably can because there are still some positions that could use more talent.

Just busting your chops a bit. McFadden will be a top three pick.

Cason will probably go in the mid first round...right where i hope we will be.

has McFadden been all that impressive this year? I haven't been following college all that much this year, but I haven't heard near the hype on him that he was getting last year.

He had a bad game vs Auburn but he's still looking really good this year. Arkansas is losing though, so his Heisman hype is dying off.

Peterson had some crap games too, but if you look at everything the guy has done...well, McFadden would look sweet in Cardinal red. Hopefully this team wins enough games after the bye that we will be upset with not drafting high enough to get him :).

You have to be top three to get Darren. At worst if we lost the rest I doubt we got that high. And there is NO WAY we lose the rest. THough he would be a GREAT RB for us. Maybe a trade up with BJ?

We can all watch the Cards 1st round pick next year on ABC this Saturday night.Vernon Gholston from Ohio State is the guy. He's rated to go in the late teens/early twenties but i think he'll be the best pass rusher in the draft. He's about 6'4 260 and athletic enough to play OLB in a 3-4.He's only a junior but he'll probably come out. The guy is absolutley a stud.

Our chances of signing Hall are zero.

He is a team cancer and we don't go after that sort of player.

I think that position is the priority

The Cards are getting a good interior push with Dockett-- they now need the outside pressure to finish--

A couple guys in that hybrid role to keep an eye on:

Shawn Crable, Michigan. Mich has a good track record with linebackers and this guy is very good. A good pass rusher, but has been used as more an all around LB. The perception of him as "just" a linebacker rather than a pass rusher may push him down in the draft.

Tommy Blake, TCU. Pure pass rusher, athletic enough to stand up.

Chris Long, VA -- I have seen him ranked very high, and seen him ranked middle of the first round. Plays pure DE, but the right size and athleticism to play the hybrid role.

If you mean hybrid as in 4-3 DE or 3-4 DE you are correct. If you mean hybrid as in possibility of playing 3-4 OLB I have to disagree completely. He is 6-4, 290 pounds. He is a pure DE in both a 4-3 or 3-4 D only. Maybe even an UT in a cover 2 scheme like the bears use.

my error -- I had him at 265 - 270 lbs and figured that if he can be a Berry replacement, asking him to go to 260-265 would be no big deal. 290 is a true DE.

Aside from better corner play -- the one thing the D needs to take it up a notch is another rangy, athletic pass rushing guy over on the right side.

Bert has definately slowed down, and would be much more effective if he could be used situationally.

If the Cards hadn't made the moves that forced them to draft an Offensive Tackle they could have traded down in the draft and taken Aaron Ross and we'd have a top CB.

;)

If Moss was a 4th rounder, than Hall should be a 6th or 7th. The Falcons would never go for that though. I'm not saying this because of how well Moss did last year, but comparing their overall careers.
