I couldn't find the article but Hoopshype say the Kings plan to make a pitch for Aaron Brooks. I just wanted to mention it but do not have details to make it thread worthy. Just hoping the Suns are not full of themselves and let him walk for nothing.

I seldom read Dan Bickley at azcentral but on this occasion I think he has it right in an article dated 6-25-11. I remember when listening to local radio during the draft, the announcer said something to the effect (after the selection of Markief) that Blanks said the Suns draft had just started. IMO, this was way premature to make a statement like that. I guess he was overly confident that the Suns would get Shumpert in the twenties... I guess by trading Lopez.

As far as Blanks eye for talent, we'll learn a lot more about that from Morris than from Siler - who Blanks had no hand in acquiring. Wasting a few bucks to get the most out a player on the team is the smart thing to do as long as you're not convinced he's a hopeless case.

I don't think that's true. I believe Siler was the first guy Blanks did have a hand in acquiring. And he chose him over another big on the bench who's name has escaped me. (Jones?)

I was wrong about that... somehow I thought we had picked up Siler at the end of 09-10 instead of the start of 10-11 so Blanks would have been involved. We had two Joneses around at the time - our draft pick Dwayne and the guy we had picked up just before the 09-10 playoffs - the one who had led the DL in rebounding. We kept neither of them for long. We also had Lawal and Earl Clark and that skinny dude... I think his name was Earl, too - some kind of English nobility.

Edit, make that two kinds of English nobility - Earl Baron.

Yeah, it was the DL Jones I was talking about. He was involved in the Barbosa trade but was later waived and came back at the start of last season but the final cut was down to him and Siler.

I liked what I saw of Silar last season. He did not play many minutes, but averaged 0.27 rebounds per minute. His April numbers weren't impressive, only 021 per minutes but he did very well in March 6 rebounds in 11 minutes.

His best two games were agaist Orlando, where he grabbed 3 reound in just three minutes and against the Wolves were he had 5 rebounds in 14 minutes. His worst game was 1 rebound in 12 minutes against the Mavs.

I don't know if he is a quality player, but I am not ready to dismiss him quite yet.

I also appreciate his efford on boards. Especially on offence. Several times he grabbed a reb but wasn't able to finish - he usually was fouled due to that and get some FT, but finishing around the rim is definitely aspect of game he should work on.

If Siler can learn to make a move as soon as he gets the basketball in the low post, he could become a really nice scorer. He has some really nice moves, but he tends to hold the basketball for a couple of seconds, then bring it down or dribble it, and that's when he start getting into all sorts of trouble.

If Olajuwon can teach him how to receive a pass AND make his move all in one motion, Big G could become a very dangerous low post scoring threat.

Playing against Gortat will have to make Siler better. That's another plus that Gortat brings to this team, our big men have to compete in practice.

I might be wrong but I don't think the Suns had to cut anyone - they elected to do it.

I have seen nothing to indicate that Siler is an nba talent. Per minute stats from garbage time mean absolutely nothing.

I have no idea if he is capable of being effective in the NBA. He's big and he has some good natural instincts and those qualities make it worth trying to develop him. Right now, it takes him about 5 minutes to lift his feet but I think we're all hoping that a much more conditioned Siler might make him enough lighter on his feet to play at this level. I'll say this, if he could move like pre-injury Robin, he'd be a lot more attractive player than Lopez ever was.

Did you know he was the 5th pick in the NBADL draft?

http://www.nba.com/video/channels/nba_tv/2009/11/05/091105_dleague_5th.nba/

I love this interview from when he worked out for Indiana two years ago: http://www.nba.com/video/teams/pacers/2009/06/11/2009_siler.pacers/

He seems very bright.

This is not the first time I've heard scouts raving about his footwork. He's a big boy, no doubt, with good footwork and from what I've seen good hands and instincts. I'm more than willing to wait for this kid to develop. I think if he could shed some pounds he'll be better than Lopez. I would not mind at all if they locked him up at a reasonable deal for four years. Say 4 years for $6M total or something.

Siler is a smart guy AND he can play. He just needs to learn to make a move AS SOON AS he gets the ball. When he starts looking around, taking a dribble, putting the ball down, he gets into trouble. When he gets the ball and makes his move, he is very difficult to stop in the low post.
