Lopez' old agent is the new Warriors GM and has made strong overtures to the Suns about acquiring him. Coro reports at one point the discussion was GS's No. 11 pick and Ekpe Udoh but GS backed off. They still want him, though.

FYI.

Can I help you pack, Robin? We still need a backup Center (not Frye).

Pull the trigger yesterday.

I guess it depends if you want to give up one of your two centers for Klay Thompson, because that's where I think GS was drawing the line. I don't know much about the kid other than his dad is Mychal, who was a great player but also kind of condescending and annoying.

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. I'd also do something like Udoh and Charles Jenkins for Lopez if they're interested in parting with Udoh. I have no idea why Golden State would want a damaged player like Robin but I'd jump at any reasonable offer.

I would do Klay Thompson for Lopez. Lopez isn't going to see much time now anyway. It's going to be the Gortat/Morris/Frye show at the 4/5 with spot minutes by Lawal all year long. Might as well get a proper 2-guard since all we have is a SF masquerading as one right now.

Now that GS drafted Tyler I'm sure the deal is off the table.

And I guess the bulk of this conversation took place before the draft, so I would tend to agree with you.

If we find out, years down the road, that the deal was held up in the Suns offices before the draft...

I know that athletic height doesn't grow on trees - but then again, Robin doesn't fit that description, does he?

I Assume you mean Bob Myers? This has been disputed locally and I think them getting Jeremy Tyler last night will probably end that rumor.

On another thread, I pointed out that the Warriors had drafted my sleeper, Charles Jenkins, in the second round. Jenkins is far too simiar to the Warriors current guys, Curry and Ellis to make sense. But if the Warriors were gatterhing assets to use in a trade for Lopez, then it would make sense.

OT, but I found this at Arizonasports - 'that pick may very well have been made to somehow, some way, down the road land Steve Nash in a Knicks uniform'.

Iman Shumpert and Chauncey Billups, maybe?? Billups' contract is up next year like Nash's - I'd be interested. Two defensive monsters, along with Markieff Morris and the Suns improve defensively.

They could have him for a future draft pick for all I care. Seriously....no big loss. I could name 10 to 15 centers in the NBA that will give us exactly what he produces on average.

So, why give him away. Put him in the d-league and let him develop. What is there to lose with that?

The D-league isn't going to turn a guy who wasn't great rebounder in college or the NBA into a good rebounder. It's not going to teach him to play like a real 7 footer should.

It says a lot that we sent Gortat and Siler to workout with Olajuwon but not Lopez.

I don't know what the team thinks of Lopez. He may simply be the kind of guy that will take a while to develop, or he may just not have the psersonality to be an NBA center.

IMHO, Silar is going to be pretty good once he's in Suns condition.Lopez needs more than just general conditioning, he needs to get a lot stronger.

I wonder whether Lopez is still injured. If there is a training camp this fall, it won't surprise me if reports start trickling out about how Lopez is "not quite ready" and is being held out of certain activities "as a precautionary measure."

It's Siler, and I couldn't disagree more. I don't think he has NBA talent at all. He has zero athleticism and lacks the instincts and fundamentals that would be needed to overcome such a deficiency. For some reason Blanks is enamored with him which causes me to question his eye for talent.

Still injured? It's been a year and a half since his back injury. Unless you are referring to the knee sprain he suffered early this past season. If you are referring to his back, then I'm not sure he'll ever recover unless surgery is an option.

Word is that Lopez just isn't passionate about basketball. Between that and the nagging back injuries its easy to see why the team is ready to move on. He's a cheap serviceable backup, but the Suns shouldn't hesitate to move him if they get a decent offer for him.

Well, okay, "re-"injured. For example Tyson Chandler has battled back problems throughout his career. I wasn't trying to make excuses for Lopez, just advancing an alternative explanation for the team's apparent preference for Siler.

I haven't seen enough of Siler to come to a firm conclusion but I watched him fairly carefully when he did play. He actually did a pretty good job defending the pick and roll - stepping out in the manner our coaches want and recovering to his own man quite well. (If you want to observe really bad 'instincts' watch Warrick defend the P & R or any other play.) True he didn't appear very athletic but bigs don't have to be to be effective - KT for example and people didn't rave about TD's athleticism either. (I'm not comparing Siler to either of them, just using them as examples of big defenders who didn't rely on athleticism to excel.)

I'm not sold on Siler by any means but he is big enough and has decent instincts, IMO. He also has a soft shooting touch. Where I suspect he'll fail is in not having enough determination to get himself in great shape and/or to learn techniques and defensive responsibilities. Heck, if he thinks about himself like you think about him, he's toast.

For some reason Blanks is enamored with him which causes me to question his eye for talent.

I don't know where you get the idea Blanks is enamored with him - thinking a young player has enough potential to want to aid his development is a good thing - in the scheme of things the cost of sending him off to work with Olajuwon has to be pretty trivial. I'm inclined to think that not sending Lopez (or Lawal) had to do with them not being healthy enough.

As far as Blanks eye for talent, we'll learn a lot more about that from Morris than from Siler - who Blanks had no hand in acquiring. Wasting a few bucks to get the most out a player on the team is the smart thing to do as long as you're not convinced he's a hopeless case.
