sports isn't about hating another team, it's about loving yours.

Really? You can't do both?

Why are there bumper stickers, shirts, and other merchandise in all college/pro sports that say:

My two favorite teams are the ****s and whoever is playing the ----s. ??

There is room for hate or wanting the opponent of your divisional opponent to win, IMHO. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Classy thread OP. Agree with everything you said. That game was dramatic as our playoff win vs GB. Don't want them to win the SB though.

7 OC's and 3 HC's in 7 years. Do you think maybe that might have something to do with that Bodha?

Throws are throws.

Thats a weak excuse. This guys a professional and making millions to move a ball from A to B. It doesnt matter if Macaulay calkin is calling the plays, hes the one whos on the field, not them. Putting it all on coaches is ridiculous. Look at the Colts. Apparently their coaching staff couldve been sourced from the Ronald McDonald house, and they still wouldve been great all these years because of.........the players.

Yeah they are representing the division my favorite team plays in. A division that has been called a "joke", "weak", and "soft" the past 5 years, yet managed to send two teams to the SB in that time. My alliegence lies with the Cards and if they don't make it in I root for the NFCW team. If that makes me a bad Cardinals fan, or shameful on ASFN so be it, I could careless. The 9ers earned it and are representing the NFCW well this year.

They are representing themselves, nothing more. Their players have had nothing but assface things to say about the Cardinals, and they don't represent anything beyond their own franchise.

There is NO chance any goodwill the niners winning would bestow on the division, it would simply be "finally the glorious niners have emerged from the horrible NFC West...the only real team in that group."

Once the Niners are eliminated, my playoffs will be effectively over and I won't care much who wins. Just the off chance they might sniff a title is abhorrent to me and I'll be angry until they are shoved aside and shat upon by any team, any team at all...including the Patriots.

I wonder if this "pulling for your division rival" mentality crosses over to other pro sports:

I really hope all of the diehard Suns fans on ASFN will throw their support behind the Lakers (or at least "give them credit where credit is due") in future seasons when the Suns are sent fishing early and the Lakers are still competing for another title.

Thanks in advance. :D

Sorry, can't do it, I hate the 'niners.

Think of it like the cowpie's; anybody who plays them is my team for the game.

It may bring "cred" to the NFCW; I could live well without it.

How many Cardinals/49ers games have you been to at UOP since we joined the NFCW?

My guess would be zero.

If you attended even one of those games - you would want whoever is playing the 49ers to crush them without mercy.

Rams? Seahawks? Maybe I could see hoping they do well and represent our division in a classy fashion.

49ers? Never. It's like hoping the Cowboys do well.

They represent the NFC West but I just can't root for them. Found myself wanting the Saints to win big time. It was sickening watching them celebrate that winning TD. Note they hate us just as much and have said so.

At the Superbowl, I sat next to a 49er fan who could not stop talking about how they got screwed out of the MNF game and should have won the division, blah blah blah. He was rooting for the Steelers harder than most Steeler fans were.

The rivalry runs deep. Ask a UofA alum to root for ASU in anything. And vice versa. Not happening.

That's how rivalries work.

Every season we see fans wearing the jerseys of teams not playing that day - like a Bears fan at UOP when the Cards and Packers are playing. The Bears fan is there to see the Packers lose.

We saw Eagles, Redskins, and Giants fans at the Cowboys game this season - all rooting against the Cowboys.

P.S. Go Devils !!!

None, but I have been to a 49ers-Cardinals game at Candlestick and even though I was wearing my Cardinals gear and was vocal about cheering for my Cards I was treated fine and with respect by their fans. Listen, I am not a 49ers fan, I was simply stating that they have come a long way and it was an exciting game. I am simply giving credit where credit is due.

CT, you are not simply giving credit where credit is due (which I could never do but I can accept you doing with much cringing); you are now "pulling" for this group of assnecks that talk crap about the Cardinals every chance they get.

Eh, live and let live. You are definitely in the minority though.

I want them to lose next week and I don't even know their opponent yet.

BTW: You must have dealt with nicer fans in SF than we deal with here. We deal with mostly bandwagon fans I would guess. Their players still show us no respect and will get none from me.

My hatred of the 49ers is twofold - I'm a Cardinals fan...and I'm from L.A. originally and cannot stand any teams from Northern California.

-you know, as much as people complain about the "prevent defense" --

Gregg Williams has some explaining to do.

49ers took over with one time out and 1:37. After two plays where the Saints rushed 4 and forced an underneath throw, the 49er had used half their time and advanced 15 yards.

Williams then blitzed and rushed 6 -- Smith overthrows a bit a open WR down the field. Williams then blitzes 6, and Smith hits Smtih on a crossing route down into FG position.

Just play coverage and the 49ers run out of time. Good grief -- there is being aggressive, and then there is being smart.

I think Cardinals fans should be happy about it in a selfish sense. We beat the Niners the last time we played them. They knocked off a team that was considered elite. That is really encouraging that we are right there as a playoff contender going into next season.

Another thing that I think would be good for the Cards.

Seeing if the 49ers can avoid a let down after making, or winning, the Super Bowl. After all, it's not like Harbaugh's brother can give him any advice on that.

On the other hand the reason the Saints were back in the game was because SF started rushing only 3. You can't let the QB of an offense like the Saints operate with no pressure. They'll pick your defense apart.

I still can't believe SF scored that many points. They have nothing at WR. How does Vernon Davis get open when there is no one else a defense has to worry about? Even if Smith gets the ball to one of the SF WRs they're liable to drop it. It was fun though spending the afternoon saying "Fitz would have had that".

That's the point of a message board. It's not a place to pat someone on the ass for being "classy" if you vehemently disagree with them.
