I kinda felt all along that Dansby wouldn't be extended. I guess the big difference in philosophy is the Cards want to pay him like a top LB, but to attain those dollars he would have to perform and reach certain incentives.

How cruel of the Cards not to just dish out a wad of doe without expecting a certain level of performance in return.

Gee. I don't know, but I think that kind of a deal worked out pretty well for Fitz.

Good Luck on what?

Getting a new contract?

Good luck that he stays healthy and plays at a level high enough to get his big payday. He is going to make 8.2 this year. I'm sure he would have been gauranteed more than that on an extension and a whole lot more if he performed.

I think he meant good luck Karlos, because he will be playing for a new team in 2009. He WILL get a big contract after the season ends. Thanks, Rod for keeping our "core" together.

Dansby has already done very well for himself, even if he blows out a knee right now and never plays another down. He will beat Pace's contract if he ever makes it to the open market.

Why He's Smiling

He's guaranteed $8M this year and $9M next year, if he gets tagged again. If he's let go after this year and signs elsewhere, the guaranteed part of his new contract, coupled with the money he'll make this year will make him a very rich man. If he blows out a knee, this year, he'll have to settle with just being rich. I'd smile too.

I'm amazed that there are fans who still think Karlos Dansby hasn't performed at a high level. High level for the NFL overall. Super Star level by previous Arizona Cardinal standards.

The tough part of this is that the lack of extension could lead to a second tag and a disgruntled player. One thing I keep hearing over and over from PRO personnel people in all the major sports is that if a player seriously doesn't want to be there you need to get rid of them. I hate to see that possibility arise with Dansby.

JEEZ, We get to watch the guy for a whole season this year, and some are lamenting that he MIGHT leave next ?

Have fun with that.

Training camp is right around the corner. I am concentrating on the here and now.

Karlos has commented time and time again, that he would prefer to remain a Cardinal for the rest of his career... He has never once said anything to the contrary...
This is all on the Cards. Either get a longterm deal worked out, or kiss Karlos goodbye... This scenario plays out hundreds of times each year in pro sports.

If he wants $9 million per season, he better start playing up to Ray Lewis & Brain Urlacher level. He not coming any where near that level.

Karlos is very good -- he plays at a pro bowl level -- and if this team ever wins consistently, he will go there.

I think Karlos wants to be here -- but at the same time I get the impression that he isnt giving any sort of home town discount either.

I dont worry about being disgruntled, etc -- who would have thought that Lance Briggs would be with the Bears right now under a relatively cheap long term deal.

If he wants 8-9 million a season all he has to do is show up because thats what the Cards are already paying him.

BTW: Dansby is an outside LB now playing inside in a hybrid 3-4. He has not been expected to be and never will be a Brian Urlacher or Ray Lewis.

Forcing 15 turnovers in just 4 seasons says it all for me.

Dansby is an inside LB in a 4-3 in which the other inside LB, Gerald Hayes is the primary run stuffer. Urlacher and Lewis are 3-4 traditional MLBs. The situations are not comparable.

Yeah , him and AW get their share of TO's and create plenty of havoc.

Don't worry we'll have him two more years, at least.

:yeahthat:

It's not like he's offering to play for the league minimum. He wants to be paid like one of the best linebackers in the game. He can say he wants to be a Cardinals all he wants, but when he follows it up with "I want a contract that averages $9 million a season," he sounds like a guy who's more concerned with getting paid then playing in a certain city.

Big difference paying 8 mill one season compared to 9 Mill over 5-6 years.

When has he said that and if he did that is exactly what 99% of the players in the league say that are smart enough to not burn bridges. Its what all players say to the media and doesnt hold any water for me one way or the other, doesnt prove a thing.

They are in terms of contracts for LB's. Dansby is looking for Urlacher and Lewis money of which he is not in their class. Weakside ILB vs. strong side ILB doesnt matter when it comes to contracts and are comparable.

Hey, you just described every single player in the NFL. Some fans can be so self-righteous.

Dansby is playing in a 3-4 scheme. Urlacher & Lewis are playing in a 4-3 scheme. He still hasn't produce like Lewis & Urlacher. I feel the Cardinals are being generous by offering him Whitherspoon & Tatupu( spell check) money. It is said by Graves that the Cardinals offered him incentives to make big money. I agree totally with that.

I wouldn't sign an incentive laden contract with any NFL team and especially the Cardinals.
