FORESIGHT.

And why isn't there room for 3 RBs? The team was nowhere near the cap and it is has 4 RBs right now. I mean... try to make SOME sense here Shane.

Its not an issue of cap room. its an issue of keeping everyone happy and touches. You may downplay it. But that IS an issue.

it doesn't take Time travel to know that Beanie's eventually going to be hurt. he's been chronically injured his ENTIRE CAREER.

sorry guys... that trade... with a history of injury prone running backs... and no reason to shed salary made no sense.
Not to mention that THT was under contract and had to accept any role given him. Depending on a rookie with an injury history in college and your other RB with an injury history shows incredible shortsightedness.

THT fumbled his way off the team. Plain and simple. 8 fumbles for loss in 2 years and you are not going to stay on a roster.

Nobody could predict RWill being out for the season or LSH having a hand injury. It just happens.

Was the right decision at the time and I have zero problem with it.

So rookies at RB are the one position where they tend to excel. Thats just a fact. he was expected to carry some of the load. Hes gone now due to unforeseen injury. If we had kept all three and Williams wasnt hurt we would be crying about why we didnt get rid of timmy. Hindsight is bogus.

Cept it wasn't hindsight with me. I said it right off when it happened.

THT wanted a larger role with this team BEFORE we drafted Ryan Williams. His days in Arizona were done the day we drafted Williams. I understand people's arguments/frustration now, but sharing the rock three ways between Beanie/Williams/THT was not going to be realistic. No one was going to be happy in that situation. Texans have their top two running backs hurt too (though Ben Tate might have passed by Ward), so you just deal with it and hope you get contributions from your other guys.

It's this same exact logic why we have our current starting QB -- he wasn't happy with his role as a backup in Philly and wanted the chance to go somewhere else and play a larger role as a starter. If you think THT should be our starting RB today, that logic would probably also mean that Orton would be our starting QB.

Because we all know that Beanie is a durable every day back and not made of paper mache. Something told me that getting rid of him was going to come back and bite us. Now we have Chester Taylor to rely on. I think I'm going to throw up.
Some posters keep saying that... did you know if Ryan Williams was going to suffer a season ending injury in the preseason?

alphonso Smith was every bit as good as Hightower and he didn't fumble. The THT trade is a non-iisue.

We drafted Williams and he got hurt. NJCard fan, your post is a rant. Sad as it is true, I would rather have Holliday than Hightower right now because our defense is in dire straits right now

This aint college..been hurt every year so far.. he definitely has durability issues. That cant even be argued.
Like I said in another thread, find me a RB that hasn't had knee, ankle, hammy, leg issues. Whiz sat down Wells today, not Wells. It's part of the game.

Arian Foster, hammy. MJD leg issues. Felix Jones separeted shoulder. AP has missed time in the past but he's pretty durable Tolbert and Mathews, both injury problems. Hillis, missed tme last year, strep throat today. McFadden, injuries. Michale Bush injuries. Knowshon Moreno, out with injury. Ryan Grant missed most of last year. Michael Turner has missed several games. Gore has hip issues. Steven Jackson, out. Addai, neck issues last year. Jamaal Charles, IR.

The list goes on and on. To expect Wells, or any RB, to be healthy for 16 games is short sighted at best.

THT has the toughness this team needs and lacks. He runs over people and through people. Yes, he fumbles, usually trying to make an extra couple of yards. But, NJCF is 100% right---we are not nearly as good a team or nearly as tough without him.

And the thing is---the Cardinals didn't have to give him away---he was under contract and a very reasonable one at that. Plus---he was one of our own---the development should have continued.

Jetstream, I love ya man, always have...but on this one you really cannot tell us that Vonnie Holliday is worth more to this team than THT would be. Did you see Holliday play today? He was flat-out awful.

Kevin Kolb was also under contract at a very reasonable price, but he wanted a role that the Eagles couldn't offer him. And I just finished watching a piece from Costas questioning if trading him was the right move in hindsight. That's just the way the NFL works. THT wanted a role that this team couldn't offer him anymore, so it was best to trade him. In Madden you can stack your roster with starting caliber players at every position, but in the NFL guys have a way of becoming incredibly disgruntled if their aren't being put in a role that they feel their talent justifies -- especially young guys still on their rookie contract.

sorry guys... that trade... with a history of injury prone running backs... and no reason to shed salary made no sense.

We added veteran depth at DL and a draft pick for a guy who was 3rd or 4th on our depth chart...and it was a bad move? Really?

...and if we held onto Hightower and he wasn't used because all of our backs were healthy, we would have been stupid for not trading him.

I like most of what you put out there, but this is totally off the mark. You can't pass on a trade offer for a depth player and a pick, because your top 3 RB's might ALL get hurt. We would have been stupid to pass on the trade.

Oh cmon NJ do we really need this thread everytime someone gets injured? We drafted Ryan Williams, we had LSH. We had 3 quality backs on this team and ALL 3 of them got hurt, I'm not gonna sit around and bitch at the coaching staff for not being psychic. IMHO You had to figure even if Beanie went down for a couple of games we had the personell to get through it, and sorry guys, it DID make sense because the coaching staff wanted Williams sharing carries with Beanie so THT was going to be out of the equation either way.

Hindsight is 20-20 but it was the right move at the time, again IMHO.

Beanie is the picture of health compared with that list.

He's missed a 4 games now in his pro career. 3 last year.

He got the "injury prone" rap in college because he was always playing nicked up. Note..PLAYING with injuries. It's not a deserved rap, IMO. Most of the time, the guy plays through whatever it is. I can understand them not playing him today - wet field and a tweaked hammy can lead to a longer-term injury. That's a coach's call.

Gore is a freaking walking clinic...RBs get banged up.

If Ryan Williams didn't have a freak injury none of this would matter. Love when people armchair GM 3 weeks into the season in freak situations like this. **** or feel free to give your crystal ball to the FO, all knowing one.

The issue to me is the TIMING of the THT trade. He was traded very early in training camp. If the team would have waited till the END of training camp I wouldn't have an issue with the trade. Of course, then they wouldn't or shouldn't have made the trade because Williams was IR'd by then.

The move-at-a-snails-pace Rod Graves suddenly turned into a blur and in a New York minute THT was gone in exchange for a washed-up D-lineman and a 5th round pick. He would have come in very handy in those 3rd and 1 situations yesterday IMO.
