How good would we be if Googs has a descent year?

I never thought he was even close to the player we pay him for. But I have allways thought when healthy he did do some good stuff out there.

He does have a descent shot, and can pass well...

We are lacking on the bench, he could help alot... Just a thought.

we've been making player moves on the assumtion that googs won't be able to play (the draft) so we are deeper at that position. his verteran leadership will be awesome for zarko and amare. if he can contribute just a fraction of what he was it, will help the suns a lot. him comming off the bench and playing some effective mins can go a long way for the suns. especially if amare gets in foul trouble.

googs is hard worker and has good work ethic. unfortunatly, his injures have slowed his progress. i think he can be useful for this team. we need bench scoring. i'm hoping that googs can prove some people wrong, but i'll beleive it when i see it.

if googs can contribute, this team can probly win a few more games just from the difference he can make. hopefully him comming in the game will mean we don't lose a step and we can still get some offense. unfortunatly, googs didn't have that last season. he's had quite a while now to recover and hopefully get more speed and stamina.

you gotta rout for a guy like googs, but it's hard when he doesn't contribute. if he's ready to play, he'll find himself mins through the course of the games and we will be able to see just how ready he is. he might not get much time from frank in order to prove himself.

then again he might get time as a trade showcase:)

Googs did start to play well in the very beggining of the season... I think this year(contract year allways seems to get the best out of people) is the year he will finally play solid for us... I dont mean starter or allstar. But a solid veteran...

Googs won't & shouldn't get significant minutes in any of the Suns games. They have 4 PF's and he's at the bottom of the list. If he's ever playing significant minutes then it probably means that Amare is hurt.

This is what we should do with Googs.

We hold him until after Christmas. His value right now is in his expiring contract, not his play-- no matter how well he plays.

If we find that we are playing well and need something extra, then we trade him. Maybe we determine by that time we need a veteran backup pg or something. There will be teams that are out of it and wanting to dump salary.

If everything is looking good, or we know we are not going far in the playoffs, then we keep Googs, let his contract expire, enjoy the extra cap space, and move on.

In either case, now is probably not the best time to move Googs, unless there is just a fantastic deal that comes along.

We just don't know enough about this team yet to start tinkering with it.

I think that's what it all boils down to--and that could go for any thread that we've been discussing team changes on.

Of course, we're all looking for something to talk about right now, in the most dead time of year for basketball fans.

Googs is done. He is dead weight. We should just wait for his contract to expire to free space. We are not expected to go very deep into the playoffs anyway, let our youngsters develop another year, then use the free cap space to sign a good FA.

Trading Googs for a player we want is essentially the same thing as using the space to sign a FA. Just as long as we get a package that includes an expiring contract or two.

I really don't care how they handle it. If we can trade for a player, do it. If letting the contract expire allows us to sign a player --fine.

Heck, if they just let the contract expire and just save on payroll, I'm all right with that too. It is a business after all.

Hasnt it been stated time and time again that the value of letting Googs contract expire won't be in the ability to sign a FA but in being able to absorb MArions Max contract that kicks in?

I dont see Googs moving or the lack of his contract helping us sign anyone.

His ONLY value to the team is if he can contribute this season.

If Googs stays healthy he could easily get minutes.

He is big enough to play PF and C. He could even play some SF.

Except for Amare there is no big man that will definately be better than him next season on the suns.

And he can shoot it.

Maybe, but if it has been stated time and time again, it's still wrong. Marion's big extension is already in effect this season.

The Suns will still be in bad salary shape once Gugliotta is done, but it doesn't make any more sense to blame that on Marion's contract than it does on Marbury's or Hardaway's.

Can you list more than three starting SFs in the league that Gugliotta would have any hope of being able to guard?

By "the League" do you mean the NBA? Because there may be three in the WNBA that he could guard on a good night.

Thats how I have seen it since Matrix signed that contract.

Letting Googs contract expire is the only way we can get away from huge tax penalties.

Thats is exactly why we have to let Googs contract get off OUR books. Not trade him. It's addition by subtraction...

Who is talking about guarding starting SFs when the most he could see would be a minute here and there at that position?

I am sure if he can stay healthy he would be a better SF than Dan Langhi.

Exactly. If Tom Gugliotta is guarding any starting small forward I think the Phoenix Suns are in some trouble.

Actually does anybody remember Tom Gugliotta shutting down Vince Carter in a fourth-quarter a couple of years ago when Carter was torching the Suns? I remember being surprised that Googs was able to stay with him.
